Our original story from Monday, September 11, 2017, follows:

Far advanced from its last year’s concept phone Mi Mix, the Chinese mobile vendor Xiaomi has unveiled the second-generation Mi MIX 2 android smartphone in an event held in China. The biggest upgrade, of course, the new full-screen bezel-less display that covers almost the front part. The mobile also features top notch hardware including Snapdragon SoC, flagship level camera and 4G LTE with support for 43 bands.

Talking first about the pricing, Mi MIX 2 will come in three different variants based on the internal storage. The 64GB storage variant gets a price tag of RMB 3,299 or approximately Rs 32,500. The 128GB storage variant is priced at RMB 3,599 (around Rs 36,000) and the 256GB storage variant priced at RMB 3,999 (around Rs 40,100).

Design and Performance

When compared to the older Mi MIX, the newer Mi MIX 2 comes with a 12 percent smaller chin. On the front, you get the gorgeous 5.99-inch 18:9 full-screen full HD+ 2160 × 1080 display with near bezel-less design. The bottom of the screen has a narrow bezel housing the front-camera and other sensors. The sound guided speakers and ultrasonic proximity sensors are now hidden on the top side of the phone. The mobile uses an ultra slim aluminum frame and has four-side curved ceramic unibody construction.

Xiaomi has not opted for the current industry standard, dual camera setup. Instead, the Mi MIX 2 comes with the same primary camera of Mi 6. That’s a 12-megapixel rear camera featuring Sony INX386 sensor, 4-axis optical image stabilization, PDAF, HDR, f/1.8 aperture and dual-tone LED flash. For selfie addicts, the mobile packs a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. It comes with Beautify mode, full HD video calling support and a selfie countdown feature.

As for connectivity, the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 covers 6 modes and 43 bands in total, which also got support for Indian telco’s 4G band. In addition, the mobile also supports VoLTE for HD voice and video calling. Other connectivity option includes 3G and 2G network support, 2.2 dual Wi-Fi technology, and Bluetooth 5.0. The mobile runs on Android Nougat with MIUI 9.0 skin over the top. To fuel the whole device a 3,400mAh battery is included with Quick Charge 3.0 support.

For extra security, there is a fingerprint scanner on the back of the device.

Xiaomi has also unveiled a special edition of Mi MIX 2 with the full white ceramic body. It will only be available in the 128GB storage variant and comes with 8GB of RAM. Other than the memory upgrade all internal specification of the smartphone remains the same. The special edition is priced at RMB 4699 or approximately Rs 46,700.
