Those who are using a Mi/Redmi smartphones would mostly love its flashy UI called the MIUI that sits over the top of Android OS. Further refining the design and improving productivity features, the Chinese smartphone vendor Xiaomi has announced MIUI 12 for India.

This time around, Xiaomi developers have worked on to refine the existing user interface of MIUI. They have added innovative system animations, intuitive visuals and an improved camera UI. They also made it sure to improve a bunch of productivity features.

Before we get into the details of MIUI 12, let’s know which Mi/Redmi smartphone would get the update. According to Xiaomi, MIUI 12 will rollout initially to Mi 10, Redmi Note 9, Redmi Note 9 Pro, Redmi Note 8, Redmi Note 8 Pro, Redmi Note 7, and Redmi Note 7 Pro. Interestingly, you only need to wait a few more days, as the official rollout of MIUI 12 to the devices would start on August 2020.

What’s new with MIUI 12?

Refreshed UI & animations – MIUI 12 gets a revamped UI design and innovative system animations. The Mi Render Engine helps in creating ultra-smooth UI experience, whereas, the Mi Physics Engine offers elegant motion of icons which simulates a 3D curve that resembles real-life motion trajectory. It also adopts realistic visualizations that make each screen more informative and comprehensible.

MIUI 12 India rollout

Super Wallpaper – it offers a high-quality reconstruction of iconic planetary landforms based on NASA’s official imagery of Earth and Mars. It works on Always-on display, Home screen, and Lock screen.

Floating windows – As the name suggests, it’s an overlay trigger that helps you in multitasking. It can be easily moved, closed, and resized by simple gestures applied to the action bar. For example, when a WhatsApp chat comes while you are watching a YouTube video, you can quickly reply to it without pausing playback.

App Drawer – finally, MIUI 12 adds support for App Drawer. Once you turn it on (it’s off by default) all apps will be moved to there removing all the clutter from home screens.

New Camera UI – MIUI 12 brings a refresh to the camera UI, making it further easy to click pictures and shoot videos. It also brings the Magic Clone feature which allows you to create and make virtual doppelganger images or videos.

Cast anything – MIUI 12 add support to cast anything from documents, apps, videos, and games with a single tap.

Reinforced privacy protection – MIUI 12 adds granular control over app permissions, which is built on Android’s rigorous permission control. By default, now permissions to access location, camera, microphone, contacts, call history, calendar and storage are only allowed under “While using the app” mode. Also, when you share a photo, there is now an option to remove location information and metadata from it.

Ultra Battery Saver – MIUI 12 adds Ultra Battery Saver mode, which can restrict heavy power-consuming tasks and extend the battery juice further.

Dark Mode – MIUI 12 comes with an enhanced Dark Mode with darker colour palette for system backgrounds, system apps, and third-party apps alike. You can also choose to adjust contrast automatically to match the ambient light when screen brightness is reduced.
