Within a short span of time (under 9 months) we have the upgraded version of popular Redmi smartphones in our shop shelves. Chinese mobile vendor Xiaomi has launched not one but all three variants of the upgraded Redmi series in India – Redmi 6A, Redmi 6 and Redmi 6 Pro.
On a quick drill down, Redmi 6A is the entry-level Redmi smartphone from Xiaomi. It packs a punch with features like dedicated microSD slot, dual 4G VoLTE, 13-megapixel camera with EIS and AI face unlock. Coming to Redmi 6, it has all the features of Redmi 6A along with a dual camera and fingerprint scanner. The top variant in the series, the Redmi 6 Pro packs everything from Redmi 6, but with a 19:9 display (notch included) and a bigger 4,000mAh battery.
Interestingly, Xiaomi has ditched Snapdragon SoC in their upgraded Redmi 6 series and opted for MediaTek chipsets. The Redmi 6A is powered by MediaTek Helio A22 quad-core SoC, whereas the Redmi 6 comes with a MediaTek Helio P22 octa-core SoC. As a relief, the Redmi 6 Pro is powered by the Snapdragon 625 SoC.
Price chart on Redmi 6 series
The entry-level Redmi 6A will come with an introductory price of Rs 5,999, which is for the 2GB RAM and 16GB storage variant. The 2GB RAM and 32GB storage variant of the phone will have a price tag of Rs 6,999. The mobile will be available exclusively via Amazon India and Mi stores. The initial sale of the smartphone would happen on 19th September 2018, at sharp 12 PM onwards.
Coming to Redmi 6, the phone will be available in two variants. The 3GB RAM and 32GB storage variant of the mobile get priced at Rs 7,999. Whereas the 3GB RAM and 64GB variants of the mobile gets a price tag of Rs 9,499. This phone will be a Flipkart exclusive and first flash sale will start at sharp 12MP on 10th September 2018.
The top-end smartphone in the Redmi 6 series, the Redmi 6 Pro also comes in two variants. The 3GB RAM and 32GB storage variant get a price tag of Rs 10,999. Whereas, the 4GB RAM and 64GB storage variant of the phone get priced at Rs 12,999. This phone is available exclusively on Amazon India starting at 12 PM on 11th September 2018.
Redmi 6A all-around upgrade
Xiaomi Redmi 6A has a design and build quality way similar to the outgoing Redmi 5A. It, however, flaunts a 5.45-inch HD+ display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. The mobile is powered by a 2.0GHz 12nm quad-core Helio A22 processor coupled with 2GB of RAM. For storage, you get to choose from 16GB or 32GB of internal storage variant. There is also a dedicated card slot for further expanding the storage up to 256GB. The device runs on Android Oreo OS with MIUI 9.6 over the top.
Coming to photography, the Redmi 6A boasts a 13-megapixel rear camera featuring EIS and PDAF. For selfies, the mobile comes with a 5-megapixel front camera that packs AI portrait mode.
Redmi 6A has a 2+1 hybrid SIM tray. Thus you get the option to add two Nano SIM and one microSD card. The device supports 4G LTE with dual 4G VoLTE and dual Standby options. Other connectivity options include 3G and 2G network support, Wi-Fi 801.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.2. Finally, the phone is fuelled by a 3000mAh battery that can last up to 20.5 hours on 4G call.

Redmi 6 all-around upgrade
Xiaomi Redmi 6 too as per the company is getting an all-around upgrade to its earlier Redmi 5 smartphone. It got a metal uni-body with rounded edges and thin bezels on the sides. The mobile flaunts a 5.45-inch HD+ display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. That’s a bit downsizing from Redmi 5 which has around 5.7-inch screen.
Redmi 6 is powered by a 2.0GHz 12nm octa-core Helio P22 processor coupled with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage or 64GB storage options. There is also a dedicated card slot for further expanding the storage up to 256GB. The device runs on Android Oreo OS with MIUI 9.6 over the top.
Coming to photography, the Redmi 6 gets a dual camera at the rear. It’s a combination of 12-megapixel primary sensor and a 5-megapixel secondary sensor. It features f/2.2 aperture, PDAF phase focus, EIS and LED flash support. For selfies, the mobile comes with a 5-megapixel front camera featuring a f/2.2 aperture lens. Connectivity options remain the same as of Redmi 6A. However, this mobile comes with both a fingerprint scanner and an AI-powered face unlock option.

Redmi 6 Pro = Mi A2 Lite
Moving to the Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro, it’s exactly the replica of Xiaomi’s Mi A2 Lite smartphone. The difference, however, is on the software side replacing the pure Android One with MIUI skin.
Redmi 6 Pro flaunts a 5.84-inch full HD (1080 by 2280) display with a 19:9 aspect ratio and a notch at the top. The mobile is powered by a 2.0 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor paired with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage or 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. Other features including the camera setup and connectivity options remains that of Redmi 6. However, you get a big 4,000mAh battery which can offer easily two-days of phone usage. There is also an infrared blaster which you could use to control electronic devices like TV and AC.
