Finally, your voice calls from Reliance Jio to top three Indian telecom operators will somewhat go through. There will be fewer call drops and you may be able to connect to another network in the first try itself.
After Airtel and Idea Cellular opening up more points of interconnect to Reliance Jio, the second largest telecom operator, Vodafone India had offered additional points of interconnect (POIs) to Reliance Jio. This will in-turn benefit the Jio customers who are currently on the Jio welcome offer and getting unlimited free voice calling to anywhere and any network in India.
Vodafone India has offered to increase its POIs with Jio three-fold from the current assigned POIs.
“Vodafone India has always provided the PoI to other operators for all their fair, reasonable and legitimate requirements and will continue to do so,” the company said in a statement.
But it seems Reliance Jio has attacked back saying the quantum of POIs proposed to be released by Vodafone is substantially less than the requirement estimated based on transparent workings shared with Vodafone.
According to Jio, over 80 voice calls to Vodafone network is failing out of every 100 call attempts. Which then calculated to the last 10 days alone, over 15 crore Jio calls have failed on the Vodafone network.
“RJIL has been raising the issue of insufficient POIs as anti-competitive aimed at hindering the entry of a new operator. Such hurdles result in poor experience for RJIL customers who are trying to make calls to incumbent operators’ networks. It is unfortunate that TRAI’s intervention was required for Vodafone to resume augmentation of POIs as admitted in its press release. Vodafone ought to have augmented POIs by itself in compliance with its license terms. “ said Jio in a statement.
As per TRAI regulation on quality of service, the POI between telecom operators should not affect more than 1 call in every 200 calls made.
