Feeling bad seeing the dead slow downloading/browsing speeds on your broadband service and frustrated by no way to raise compliant against it. Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has issued new “Quality of Service of Broadband Service (Amendment) Regulations, 2012” through which broadband service providers (ISPs) will be fine financially if they don’t meet the Quality of Service (QoS) benchmarks for broadband services put forth by TRAI.

TRAI Regulation to Fine ISPs for not meeting Broadband Quality Of Service benchmarks

According to the regulation TRAI will charge financial disincentives on the service providers for failure to meet the prescribed Quality of Service (QoS) benchmarks for Broadband Services.  This QoS benchmarks for broadband service were put forth by TRAI on Oct 2012 and will come into effect from the 1st day of  January, 2013.

These regulations prescribe financial disincentive on Broadband Service providers for noncompliance with the benchmark at a rate not exceeding Rs 50000 per parameter for the first noncompliance and Rs 100000 per parameter for subsequent non-compliance of the benchmarks. The regulations also provide for deterrent as financial disincentives against false reporting and delay in submission of report of the Quality of Service benchmarks.
