Want to catch-all the glimpse of next trending videos on YouTube or want to watch the live FIFA 2014 football action on the go. India’s emerging telecom operator Tata Docomo has partnered with YouTube and Apalya Technologies to launch the innovative YouTube Recharges. Under this 3G Video & TV data pack, Tata Docomo’s prepaid customers will get around 50% discount on regular data charges to watch videos online.
YouTube Recharges start at Rs 9 per day where customers will get 100 MB of data for watching videos on YouTube and free subscription to Mobile TV service with 66 channels. On a recharge of Rs 19 customers will get 150MB of YouTube data along with Mobile TV subscription for a period of 3 days. Finally, on a recharge of Rs 39, one can get 300MB of YouTube data along with subscription to Mobile TV with a validity of 7 days. Post this free usage customers will be charged 3 paisa per 10 KB.
To activate the YouTube pack customers can dial *123# or by sending SMS code YT9 (for Rs 9 YouTube Recharge), YT19 ( for Rs 19 YouTube Recharge) and YT 39 (for Rs 39 YouTube recharge) to 123. We can estimated that with 100MB of YouTube data, one can watch around 20-30 minutes of videos online at a decent quality of 240p.
“This is part of our efforts to make video content more affordable to a large base of mobile Internet users in the country. This is the first of its kind partnership in India,” said Gautam Anand, YouTube Director (Content Partnerships and Operations) Asia-Pacific.
“With the YouTube Recharge plan, we are bringing down the barriers that inhibit users from enjoying their favourite video content on mobile by bringing down the cost by over 50 percent,. People are turning to YouTube to get content whenever and wherever they want it and partnerships like these help us in taking this experience to them in an affordable way” said Anand Agrawal, Tata Docomo Head (Data and Mobile VAS).
