Within a few weeks after unveiling the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ at MWC 2018, the South Korean mobile vendor Samsung has officially launched the smartphones in India. Boasting the same premium design of last year’s Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, the new smartphones packs an advanced camera, powerful processor, streamlined software and other improvements.
Starting 16th March 2018, the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ will be available to purchase via both online and offline channels. The mobiles will be available to purchase online through Flipkart, Paytm Mall and Samsung India store. If buying through Paytm Mall then as an introductory offer, you will get Rs 6000 cashback (Paytm wallet cashback). You could also get the above cashback when purchasing the devices by scanning the PaytmMall QR code at select retail stores across India.
Alternatively, you could get a cashback of Rs 6000 on Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ when purchased using HDFC Bank debit card or credit card. This option will be available on both Flipkart and Samsung India store. You could also avail ‘No Cost EMI’ schemes (3m, 6m, 9m, 12m tenures) with HDFC Bank credit cards, which will also make you eligible for the cashback.
Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ Price in India
Samsung will be offering its Samsung Galaxy S9 smartphone in two storage variants – 64GB and 256GB. The Samsung Galaxy S9 with 64GB storage will retail at Rs 57,900, the lowest among all. Whereas, the 256GB storage variant of Samsung Galaxy S9 is priced at Rs 65,900.
Coming to Samsung Galaxy S9+, it’s also available in two storage variants – 64GB and 256GB. The 64GB variant of Galaxy S9+ is priced at Rs 64,900. Whereas, the top of the line, 256GB storage variant of Samsung Galaxy S9+ will retail for Rs 72,900.
For Colour choices you could choose from Lilac Purple, Coral Blue, and Midnight Black colours.
Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ Specifications
The Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ keep the same design language of Galaxy S8 or S8+ with minor tweaks here and there. Samsung Galaxy S9 flaunts 5.8-inch Quad HD+ Super AMOLED curved display, whereas the Galaxy S9 Plus flaunts a 6.2-inch Quad HD+ Super AMOLED curved display.
Under the hood, Samsung Galaxy S9 is powered by a 64-bit Exynos 9810 octa-core processor paired with 4GB of RAM. Whereas, the Samsung Galaxy S9 plus got the same Exynos 9810 SoC, but with a bump up 6GB of RAM. Do note that international version of these devices packs Snapdragon 845 SoC. For internal storage, you could choose from 64GB or 256GB internal memory options. You can further expand the storage up to 400GB using microSD card. Both these devices come with Hybrid SIM slot. So you could either have dual SIM or choose to have a one Nano SIM and one MicroSD card.
Dual aperture lens
In Samsung Galaxy S9, you get an adjustable aperture SuperSpeed Dual Pixel 12-megapixel camera unit. Whereas, the Galaxy S9+ packs a dual camera module with a pair of Wide-angle SuperSpeed Dual Pixel 12-megapixel lens and a telephoto 12-megapixel lens. Both these lens has an aperture of f/2.4 and comes with OIS support. The main camera has an adjustable aperture allowing you to quickly transition from fixed f/1.5 and f/2.4 apertures resulting is improved low-light performance.
Both phones support slow-motion video recording at 960 frames per second or Super Slow-mo mode. Another camera feature is the AR Emoji which can create a 3D model of your face that can even reflect and imitates expressions, like winks and nods. For selfie addicts, both Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ have an 8-megapixel autofocus front camera with f/1.7 aperture.
Connectivity and Extras
As for connectivity, the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ support high-speed 4G LTE Cat 18 network that works with every 4G band in India. In addition, they both support VoLTE for HD voice calling. Other connectivity option includes 3G and 2G network support, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (2.4/5GHz), Bluetooth 5.0, ANT+, NFC and USB Type-C. It also comes with stereo speakers that are tuned by AKG and offers immersive surround sound with Dolby Atmos technology.
Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ got three biometric authentication methods – iris scanner, fingerprint scanner and face recognition. In addition to this, the phones are protected by Samsung’s latest defence-grade security platform Knox 3.1. Both these mobiles will come with full support for Samsung Pay. It uses Near Field Communication (NFC) and Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST) on these devices to make payments. Samsung Pay supports credit card, debit card, Paytm digital wallet and even UPI payments.
Fueling the Galaxy S9 is a 3000mAh battery, whereas the Galaxy S9 gets a bigger 3500mAh battery. They both support fast charging with QC 2.0 in wired and wireless mode. Both these devices run on Android 8 Oreo out-of-the-box with Samsung’s custom UI on top.
Finally, Bixby assistant has been improved. It can translate languages in real-time and offer online shopping suggestion for the products you scan through the camera. Indian languages like Hindi, Gujarati and Punjabi are also supported in Live translation feature.
