It seems the Ambani brothers are coming together to regain their telecom supremacy. The telecom venture of Reliance Industries Ltd. (RIL), the Reliance Jio Infocom Ltd. has signed an agreement with India’s third largest telecom operator Relaince Communications (RCom) on sharing latter’s nationwide telecom tower infrastructure.
RCom has around 45,000 ground and rooftop tower infrastructure across India, which Reliance Jio will utilize to power its upcoming 4G services. Reliance Jio is the only company to have won Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) spectrum across the country in the 2010 spectrum auction. The deal between companies seems to be valued at around Rs 12,000 crore over its lifetime.
Earlier this year, Relaince Jio and RCom partnered to share latter’s inter-city optic fiber network. The company also signed a consortium with International telecom players to establish the Bay of Bengal Gateway (BBG) submarine cable system, which will strengthen its position in roll out its state-of-the-art 4G services in India. and yesterday company laid plan to expand its staff strength this year by nearly three-fold, as it gears up for 4G launch in the country.
