Yes, we have waited very long for it, the commercial launch of Reliance Jio. Then we got the super unlimited Jio welcome offer, free unlimited voice calling to anywhere and the first look into Jio’s prepaid and postpaid plans.
So are you convinced to move to India’s only all IP 100 percent 4G LTE network? If you want to avail the exclusive and unlimited Jio welcome offer, but don’t want to lose your existing mobile number. Then you can now opt for the Mobile Number Portability (MNP) service.
For those who still doesn’t have a clue, Mobile Number Portability (MNP) lets you easily switch from your existing telecom provider to a new telecom operator without losing your mobile number. So simply you can port your mobile number from Airtel, Vodafone, Idea and others to Reliance Jio without changing your mobile number. That’s saving the hustle of sending a new mobile number to your friends and family.
Before moving to Reliance Jio, you need to make sure that you own a Jio 4G compatible smartphone, that too supporting VoLTE. It should support any of the three Reliance Jio 4G bands – BAND 5 LTE FDD (850 Mhz), BAND 3 LTE FDD (1800 Mhz) and BAND 40 LTE TDD (2300 Mhz).
Also, you can request porting only after 90 days of the date of activation of your current mobile connection. So if you have already used MNP once, then you can port again only after 90 days.
Port-in to Reliance Jio
Let’s start by porting in your existing mobile connection from any Indian telecom operator to Reliance Jio.
- To start the MNP request, send an SMS from your existing mobile number to 1900. The format would be PORT <space> your 10-digit mobile number (example, your message for MNP will be PORT 9876543210).
- You will then instantly get a message from 1901 to verify your MNP request.
- Within next few hours, you will get a Unique Port Code (UPC) that’s needed to port from one telecom operator to another. Do note that the validity of UPC is 15 days, after that, you need to generate a new one.
- Now download the MyJio app (Google Play or Apple iTunes). On opening the app, click on the ‘Get Jio sim’ button on the home banner. Fill in your details to get the unique QR/barcode.
- Visit the nearest Reliance Digital, Digital Xpress or Digital Xpress mini stores.
- Carry all the valid documents including address and identification proof along with passport size photo. Preferably use Aadhaar, as Jio accepts digital e-KYC Aadhaar card verification and you can get the Jio SIM activated within 15 minutes.
- Also, submit the Unique Port Code (UPC) you got above while submitting your documents.
- Get your Reliance Jio 4G SIM
- Within next 7 days, you will get a message in your existing mobile connection saying if your porting request was successful or not (15th working day in case of Jammu & Kashmir, Assam and North East service areas).
- If successful, insert the Jio 4G SIM on to your 4G smartphone.
- Fully activate the Jio 4G SIM by calling 1977.
- Once your Jio 4G SIM is activated, open up the MyJio App and register to avail the Jio Welcome Offer.
Port out of Reliance Jio
Still not convinced with the unlimited ‘gimmicks’ from Reliance Jio, then you can use MNP to port out of Jio. The steps for that remain almost the same as above.
Do note that you will need to be active on the Reliance Jio network for minimum 90 days before applying for MNP.
- To start the MNP request, send an SMS from your existing mobile number to 1900. The format would be PORT <space> your 10-digit mobile number.
- You will then instantly get a message from 1901 to verify your MNP request.
- Within next few hours, you will get a Unique Port Code (UPC) that’s needed to port from one telecom operator to another. Do note that the validity of UPC is 15 days, after that, you need to generate a new one.
- Visit the nearest customer care office of telecom operator you are looking to port in.
- Carry all the valid documents including address and identification proof along with passport size photo. Also, submit the Unique Port Code (UPC) you got above while submitting your documents.
- Get your new SIM from your telecom operator.
- Within next 7 days, you will get a message on your existing mobile connection saying if your porting request was successful or not.
- If successful, insert the SIM on to your mobile.
- Fully activate by calling the customer care.
Do note that you may experience “no network service” period for up to two hours (probably during late night) while porting to a new telecom operator. Also, any balance in your existing mobile connection will be lost while using MNP.
