Another month and yet another Redmi smartphone to tackle on. Xiaomi India expanding its Redmi Note series and today launching the Redmi Note 6 Pro in India.
Being a successor to the popular Redmi Note 5 Pro, the Redmi Note 6 Pro packs noticeable upgrades in its specifications. This includes the quad-camera or two in front and two in rear camera setup, larger display, water-repellent coating, bigger battery, AI-based algorithms and the presence of the latest MIUI 10 out-of-the-box, which is based on Android 8.1 Oreo.
Before getting into the specifications lets have a word on pricing and availability. Redmi Note 6 Pro will be available in two RAM and storage variants. The base model of the phone with 4GB RAM and 64GB of storage is priced at Rs 13,999. Whereas the 6GB RAM and 64GB storage variant get a price tag of Rs 15,999. For colour choices, you could choose from Blue, Black, Rose Gold and Red. You would also get a free ultra-slim case in the box.
Both these Redmi Note 6 Pro variants will be available exclusively on Flipkart and Mi.com. The first sale would begin on 23rd November 2018 at 12 noon. For the special Black Friday sales, you could actually get both the variants at flat Rs 1,000 discounts. Thus the Redmi Note 6 Pro packing 4GB+64GB RAM would cost only Rs 12,999 and the 6GB+64GB RAM variant at Rs 14,999. There is also an extra Rs 500 discount when purchasing the mobile via HDFC Bank credit or debit card.
AI-powered quad-camera
The notable change in Redmi Note 6 Pro from all its predecessor is the presence of dual front cameras, along with dual rear cameras. For selfies, the phone gets a combination 20-megapixel primary camera with f/2.0 aperture and 4-in-1 Super Pixel, along with a 2-megapixel secondary camera featuring f/2.2 aperture. These cameras feature AI portrait 2.0 selfie with 6 new bokeh effects and Beautify 4.0 mode.
Coming to the rear, the Redmi Note 6 Pro has dual rear camera setup. This includes a combination of 12-megapixel primary camera with f/1.9 wider aperture and a 5-megapixel secondary camera featuring f/2.2 aperture. With its 1.4um pixels, these cameras can capture more light, thus you would get a bright and detailed image even in low-light conditions. These cameras also feature Dual Pixel autofocus which drastically improves focus speeds. All in all, these cameras are all AI backed, assisting you in every photo or video you would take.
The Smart AI feature in Redmi Note 6 Pro is capable of detecting around 27 types of scenes instantly. It could automatically add 6 different kinds of lens flare effects to your photos to make it pop-out. There are also some advanced AI camera features like AI dreamscape and AI super-resolution photography, which will be available in a future update.
Upgraded Specifications
Redmi Note 6 Pro sports a sleek design that’s built on aluminium and have a curved design that fits perfectly in your hand. It flaunts a large 6.26-inch immersive FHD+ Full-Screen display with 2280 by 1080 pixel screen resolution and 403 PPI. The wider view has a cutout or notch at the top, thus having a 19:9 aspect ratio. A 2.5D rounded Corning Gorilla Glass protects the front display from accidental drops and scratches. It also features P2i water-repellent nanotechnology which keeps the phone safe from accidental water splashes.
Under the hood, the Redmi Note 6 Pro is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor paired with Adreno 509 GPU. For RAM and storage, you could choose between 4GB RAM+64GB storage or 6GBRAM+64GB storage combinations. As the phone features a hybrid SIM tray you could add a nanoSIM with a microSD card (up to 256GB) or go with dual SIMs.
Coming to connectivity, the Redmi Note 6 Pro supports 4G LTE with support for dual VoLTE along with 3G and 2G networks. Other connectivity options include WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0 and IR Blaster. It also features Wi-Fi passthrough, which allows sharing a Wi-Fi connection with other devices. Thankfully, Xiaomi has kept the 3.5mm headphone jack in the phone. For security, the phone comes with a rear mount fingerprint sensor. Finally, the device draws its power from a 4000mAh lithium-ion polymer battery that would easily last for two days and support Quick Charge 3.0.
