Tablets have gone on from becoming obscure large devices deemed a luxury to being one of the top sellers in the mobile market. With this boom, various manufacturers have stepped in to this market and this is now a rapidly mushrooming computing segment in the market. Taking this to the next level are tablet PC’s. One of the best in this segment is the Reconnect Tablet PC.
Design
At first glance, there’s nothing outrageous about the Reconnect Tablet PC. A closer look reveals the smooth clean, neatly milled outlines of a device that doesn’t seem prone to the squeaks and creaks of some tablets seen in the market today. The dimensions of the tablet are 19.6cm X 12 cm – a very convenient size. The optimum size combined with a slim profile of 1.1cm results is excellent ergonomics. The back has a matte finish that provides excellent grip. The display is a high-resolution, 1024×600 pixels one and displays colors with great depth and clarity. Also, there’s a 2MP camera on the back and a 0.3MP one on the front.
The Technical Side
The device’s heart is the Cortex A9 processor thrums at 1GHz and is backed up by a whopping 1 gig of DDR3 RAM. The Mali-400 GPU does a good job on the graphics intensive Android ICS OS. Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) might be a bit dated, but it still functions flawlessly on this model. The in-built memory is 4GB and this is expandable up to 32 GB. The display aspect ratio of 16:9 offers amazing visuals and plays Full HD movies. While all of the usual wireless networks are obviously present, a unique thing in the Reconnect Tablet PC is that it supports 3G networks – great news for using internet on the go.
Device Performance
You expect a device running the A9 1GHz chip to be a robust, efficient one and this is exactly what this is. When we tried various benchmarks and tests, the tablet performed very well. In fact, in many cases, it even exceeded our expectations. The screen transitions from portrait to landscape and back were smooth. Touch response was good on the 7-inch screen; and we found that we were able to navigate through the OS quickly.
The battery life was also quite good. Playing Full HD Videos gave around 5 hours of playback time – not bad at all. Apart from videos, using the audio player or using the Reconnect Tablet to surf the internet didn’t eat up too much time. With gaming, the battery didn’t give in too quickly for our tastes and overall, the battery life was quite decent. Charging time was around about 2 hours to top off the 3300 mAh Lithium Polymer battery.
Cameras on a tablet are a bit of hit and miss. The 2MP camera takes some average photographs and with a megapixel count in the low single digits, you can’t expect much.
Conclusion
The Reconnect Tablet PC is a fantastic device with many cool features and offers phenomenal value. This is a great buy in our opinion and would serve as a great gift for your kids.
