PRISM the super secret surveillance program from US Govt, that collects emails, personal details, documents, photos and everything else you do on web, for US secret service to stop terrorist activity. Their has been wild reports that most of the web giants, Google, Facebook, Apple and others are cooperating with the US Govt for the surveillance program by providing a ‘back door‘ to their server farms.
“The National Security Agency has obtained direct access to the systems of Google, Facebook, Apple and other US internet giants,” according to a top-secret document obtained by the Guardian.
In light of the activity, Internet Service Providers Association of India (ISPAI) has asked India Government to insist Google, Facebook and other US-based web service providers to set up local servers in India. As a way to keep all the data within the country and to stop miss use of the data thus obtained. Department of Telecom (DOT) has earlier laid their plans to make it mandatory for telecom operator and Internet service providers in the country to store up-to-date data records of all their subscribers.
“The members want us to take immediate measures such as insisting upon Indian users’ privacy to be protected from any such misadventure of any intelligence departments.” says Rajesh Chharia, President of the Association in Business Line.
With PRISM exposure, Govt now has a strong hand to force Google, Facebook and others to set up their servers in India, a in the case of Blackberry in India. It will be better if Government lays down proper guidelines and strict regulations to protect the data for their people.
