Some year’s back, i get super existed when someone post a scraps on my Orkut profile. It was one of the first thing that taught us the online social connection with friends and family. Years later Facebook came and took over everything leaving Orkut as a graveyard. On September 30, 2014 Google will officially shutting down Orkut, sadly on its 10th year.
Launched in January 24, 2004 Orkut was Google’s first attempt to capture the social networking world. At that time MySpace and other smaller social networking sites ruled. Orkut brought an entirely new experience to users with its scraps, community features and it got instant hit in emerging markets like India and Brazil.
“Over the past decade, YouTube, Blogger and Google+ have taken off, with communities springing up in every corner of the world. Because the growth of these communities has outpaced Orkut’s growth, we’ve decided to bid Orkut farewell (or, tchau). We’ll be focusing our energy and resources on making these other social platforms as amazing as possible for everyone who uses them.” said Paulo Golgher, Engineering Director, Orkut at official blog.
Orkut users can still migrate their profile to Google’s new venture to social networking – Google+. But they can also take out or export all their profile data, community posts, videos and photos using Google Takeout service until September 2016 and after that all data will be permanently deleted for ever. One can also completely delete their Orkut account from their Google account.
Goodbye Orkut!
