Meet the new OnePlus 9 series, officially launched in Indian at a virtual event on Tuesday. Unlike the previous years, the mobile vendor has launched three new OnePlus smartphones. This includes the flagship OnePlus 9 Pro, then the normal OnePlus 9 and then the water-down OnePlus 9R.

This time, the main highlights of the OnePlus 9 series are the camera unit which is co-developed with Swedish brand Hasselblad. Do note that there is no advance chip or camera sensors incorporated into the phone. The partnership is solely on the software front, as of now. What do you get is Natural Color Calibration that brings industry-leading colour performance. In a nutshell, photos taken on OnePlus 9 series phones offers true-to-life colour and natural skin tones with excellent colour reproduction.

Price matters

Before going in-depth on the specification, let’s first look at the pricing on the newest OnePlus 9 series android smartphones. The top-end OnePlus 9 Pro price in India starts at Rs 64,999 for the base 8GB RAM with a 128GB storage variant. It can go up to Rs 69,999 for the 12GB RAM with 256GB storage modal.

On the other hand, the OnePlus 9 price in India starts at Rs 49,999 for the same 8GB RAM and 128GB base model. While the 12GB RAM with 256GB storage model gets a price tag of Rs 54,999.

Finally, the cheapest among the series, the OnePlus 9R price in India starts at Rs 39,999 for the 8GB RAM with 128GB storage modal. Whereas, the 12GB RAM with 256GB storage variant is priced at Rs 43,999.

As always, all the three phones under the OnePlus 9 series will be available exclusively via Amazon India and OnePlus stores (online and offline). They are available for pre-orders on these e-commerce platforms with cash backs and exclusive offers.

OnePlus 9 Pro

The elephant in the room, the OnePlus 9 Pro packs all the bells and whistle of a flagship android smartphone. It flaunts a 6.7 inches QHD+ AMOLED with LTPO display with a resolution of 3216 by 1440 pixels and 525 ppi. It gets a smart 120 Hz screen refresh rate that elevates image scrolling, video content, and gaming performance. It also packs native 10-bit colour depth along with an impressive 1,300 nits peak brightness. There’s is also the Hyper Touch support that could increase the touch-responsive rate to 360Hz when playing your favourite mobile games.

Under the hood, the OnePlus 9 Pro comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC coupled with up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 2-LANE internal storage. Do note that there is no expandable storage option available with any of the three OnePlus 9 series phone.

Now to the most attractive part of the OnePlus 9 Pro, the cameras. At the rear, the OnePlus 9 Pro features a quad camera unit. This includes the 48MP Sony IMX789 main camera with an f/1.8 lens that has optical image stabilisation (OIS) and EIS support. Then we have the newer 50MP Sony IMX766 ultra-wide Freeform lens with f/2.2 aperture, an 8MP telephoto camera with 3.3x zoom and f/2.4 aperture and a 2MP monochrome camera. In the front, the OnePlus 9 Pro features a 16MP Sony IMX471 camera with EIS and f/2.4 aperture.

Coming to connectivity, the OnePlus 9 Pro supports 5G, 4G LTE, 2×2 MIMO Wi-Fi (dual-band, up to Wi-Fi 6), Bluetooth 5.2 and NFC. There is an in-display optical fingerprint sensor for extra security. It also features Dual Stereo Speakers with Dolby Atmos support.

OnePlus 9 Pro packs a 4,500mAh battery and include the newest Warp Charge 65T charging and Warp Charge 50 Wireless. Using the Warp Charge 65T, you can get a full charge from 1-100 per cent in just 29 minutes. With Warp Charge 50 Wireless it can go from 1-70 per cent in just 30 minutes. It also supports Quick Charge (QC), USB Power Delivery (PD), and Programmable Power Supply (PPS) fast charging protocols.

OnePlus 9

As it gets the “Pro” part cut, the OnePlus 9 is a slightly smaller and bumped-down model. Instead of all-glass and metal premium material used in the OnePlus 9 Pro, the OnePlus 9 has a fibreglass-reinforced plastic frame.

We could say its way more similar to last years OnePlus 8 Pro. It gets the same 48MP Sony IMX689 sensor as its main sensor, however packs the new 50MP Sony IMX766 ultra-wide Freeform lens with f/2.2 aperture. There is also the third 2MP monochrome lens at the rear. Importantly, there is no optical image stabilisation (OIS) in any of the camera sensors in the OnePlus 9.

OnePlus 9 flaunts 6.55 inches FullHD Fluid AMOLED display with 2400 by 1080 pixels resolution and a super-smooth 120Hz refresh rate. Under the hood, hardware is similar to its big brother OnePlus 9 Pro.

However, the OnePlus 9 misses out on the faster Warp Charge 50 Wireless, instead settles for Warp Charge 65T. It gets the same 4,500 mAh (2S1P 2,250 mAh) battery pack.

OnePlus 9R

The cheapest among the three, the OnePlus 9R is a complete water-down version of the OnePlus 9 Pro. It flaunts 6.55 inches 1080p 120Hz Fluid display with a resolution of 2400 by 1080 pixels and 402 ppi. Under the hood, the phone carries a Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 SoC coupled with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. Other internal hardware specifications are similar to that of the OnePlus 9.
