With increment additions to hardware, OnePlus has officially debuted its second flagship refreshment for this year, the OnePlus 6T. This time the display got slightly bigger and the ugly lengthy notch has been reduced to a water-drop notch. There’s now an in-display fingerprint scanner, a second bottom firing speaker and a larger battery.

However, there is also certain deletion from the new OnePlus 6T hardware. This includes the removal of the 3.5mm headphone jack and the lack of a notification LED.

Design and Performance

OnePlus 6T maintains the same all-glass body design like its predecessor, yet it’s slimmer and has narrow bezels all-around. You get 86 per cent screen-to-body ratio on the new OP6T. The mobile flaunts a 6.41-inch Optic AMOLED full HD+ display with a screen resolution of 2340 by 1080 pixels and 19.5:9 aspect ratio. There is still a notch on the screen, but its now significantly smaller, thanks to the water-drop design. Corning’s latest Gorilla Glass 6 is been used for all-around protection of the glass body. The mobile is also water and dust resistance to a certain extent, but don’t take it for a swim.

Talking about button layouts, OnePlus 6T has the volume rocker and SIM card tray on the left. The alert slider and power button are on the right with power button been slightly lowered for easy access. On the bottom, you get a single USB Type-C port and speaker grills for the dual bottom-firing stereo speaker. For colour choices, you get to choose from Mirror Black and Midnight Black. However, you could expect OnePlus to come up with more colours and special theme additions in the future.

Under the hood, the OnePlus 6T is powered by a 2.8 GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor that’s been coupled with Adreno 630 GPU. It’s clubbed with 6GB or 8GB LPDDR4X RAM and 128 GB or 256 GB UFS 2.1 internal storage combination. There is still no microSD card slot, thus no option to expand the storage. The mobile runs on OxygenOS 9 which is based on the Android Pie operating system.

OP6T Camera

OnePlus 6T camera sensors remain the same as that of OnePlus 6. You get a dual camera set up at the rear and a single camera unit at the front. At the back, the mobile has a 16-megapixel Sony IMX 519 primary camera sensor featuring f/1.7 aperture, PDAF, OIS and EIS. It works in tandem with a 20-megapixel Sony IMX 376K camera sensor featuring f/1.7 aperture and PDAF. For selfie addicts, the mobile still has the 16-megapixel fixed-focus Sony IMX 371 camera sensor featuring f/2.0 aperture and EIS support.

Although the camera sensors remain unchanged, OnePlus 6T packs a significant amount of software tweaks for the cameras. This includes the new Nightscape feature, which helps in better low-light photos with “improved clarity, less noise, more accurate colour reproduction and better dynamic range“. There is Intelligent scene recognition which can detect what’s you’re shooting and adjusts the brightness, contrast, saturation, and more to capture that perfect image.

Another feature added is the Studio lighting mode. It uses advanced face detection and edge detection to dynamically tone shadows and highlights on the subject’s face. Existing camera features like portrait mode and HDR mode has also been improved.

OnePlus 6T design and Colours

The OnePlus 6T camera can shoot 4K videos at up to 60 fps and slow-motion video at up to 480 fps in 720p. You also get a full-featured video editor which allows you to trim and filter videos, manually add slow motion and apply reverse and loop effects.

Connectivity and Extras

Coming to connectivity, the OnePlus 6T supports Dual nano-SIM slot with dual-LTE connectivity and active standby for two 4G LTE connections. You also get full 4G VoLTE support along with 3G and 2G network options. Other connectivity options include 2×2/MIMO, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, 2.4G/5G, Bluetooth 5.0 with support for aptX and aptX HD and NFC. For position tracking, you get GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou and Galileo.

OnePlus 6T fast charging technology

The OnePlus 6T comes with dual bottom-firing stereo speakers. It supports Dirac HD Sound and Dirac Power Sound technology. As we said earlier, there is no 3.5mm headphone jack port, which is now replaced with one single Type-C port. For security, the mobile has an optical fingerprint in-display fingerprint scanner. which is hidden under the display. Finally, fuelling the device is a 3,700mAh non-removable battery, a 400mAh bigger than OP6 and still comes with Fast Charging at 5V/4A.

OnePlus 6T Pricing and Availability

OnePlus has bumped-up the pricing, now the base variant of OnePlus 6T packing 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage cost Rs 37,999. Whereas, the 8GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage variant will be sold at Rs 41,999. Finally, the premium variant of OP6T with 256GB of internal storage and 8GB of RAM gets a price tag of Rs 45,999.
