The day you were waiting for a long time, to get know and get hands on the 2017 flagship killer. The Chinese mobile vendor OnePlus has finally debuted its flagship killer OnePlus 5 android smartphone. You may already know most on the design and hardware part that comes in it. This includes the dual camera setup, the most powerful Snapdragon 835 chipset, dash charger, up to 8 GB of RAM, and polished Oxygen OS.

Design and Performance

You may feel the OnePlus 5 design to be more in line with Apple iPhone 7 Plus or even its neighbours OPPO R11. But still, the OnePlus 5 got a premium all-metal unibody design featuring the ‘Horizon Line’. A continuous hard line that wraps around the mobile adding a horizon-like division to the phone’s edge. The phone weighs 153g and it’s one of the slimmest flagship smartphones out there with 7.25mm thin.

A little disappointed in the display section, as OnePlus 5 flaunts a 5.5-inch 1080P Full HD Optic AMOLED display. It carries a pixel density of 401ppi and supports sRGB and DCI-P3 colour gamut. The whole screen is well protected with 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 5. If you love to read books on your smartphone, then OnePlus 5 features reading mode powered by the ambient sensor. It can automatically adjust the screen colour temperature as per your surrounding. If you are looking for some colourful variants, then the mobile comes in Midnight Black and Slate Grey colour options.

OnePlus 5 finally gets Official - dual camera, Snapdragon 835, Dash Charger

Under the OnePlus 5, you find the most powerful mobile platform. The mobile is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 mobile chipset that almost 25 percent faster than our old OnePlus 3T. The processor is coupled with 8 GB of LPDDR4X RAM, and another variant of the phone that carries 6 GB of RAM. With 50 percent faster file transfer, the mobile carries up to 128GB of UFS 2.1 dual lane internal storage.

Dual Camera. Clearer Photos

One of the most interesting features of OnePlus 5 is the dual camera setup. At the rear, you get a 20-megapixel telephoto camera along with a 16-megapixel wide-angle camera. OnePlus has used a custom build Sony IMX 398 sensor for the 16MP wide-angle camera that also features larger f/1.7 aperture, DCAF and EIS. Whereas the 20MP telephoto camera features a Sony IMX 350 sensor along with f/2.6 aperture and PDAF. Essentially with both cameras combined, you can create a depth-of-field effect or bokeh effect on pictures you take.

Adding more value to the hardware is the intelligent software part that brings faster focus. With various modes like Portrait Mode, that’s perfect for taking portrait photos with bokeh effect. The Smart Capture mode can atomically detect various condition while you are shooting a photo and in the background, it can optimise for accuracy and clarity. Finally, there is a new Pro Mode for people going in depth on the mobile photography and allows fine-tune every aspect of the camera.

Up front for selfie addicts, OnePlus 5 comes with the 16-megapixel camera powered by a Sony IMX 371 sensor. It features f/2.0 aperture and Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS). It also carries various modes like HDR and Face Beauty. For shooting selfies at night it also has screen flash support.

Connectivity

OnePlus 5 has dual nano-SIM slot, one of the few high-end devices to support it. Both SIM slots support 4G LTE networks that can work with every 4G band operational in India and 34 network bands across the globe. Other connectivity options include 3G and 2G network support, Bluetooth 5.0 LE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, 2.4G/5G, and NFC. The mobile comes with USB Type-C port and still keeps the 3.5mm headphone jack. For extra security, the mobile comes with a fingerprint sensor embedded in the front home button. The powerful hardware comes into life with OxygenOS built over the Android Nougat.

The phone carries a 3300 mAh battery which seems to be low as per flagship standard but comes with Dash Charger support. You can get a day’s worth power in half an hour of charging the phone. Dash Charger can offer consistent charging speeds and the phone stays cool every time.

Finally talking about pricing, the OnePlus 5 will come in two variants. The 6GB of RAM and 64GB storage variant is priced at $479 or approximately Rs 30,999. Whereas the much powerful 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage variant gets a price tag of $539. The mobile will start shipping immediately for international users. For India users, OnePlus will have another launch event on 22nd June 2017. It’s almost confirmed that OnePlus 5 will be Amazon India [amazon.in/OnePlus5] exclusive and sales start on that day at 4.30 PM.
