The Matrix phone returns – the phone made popular through the Matrix films has got a rebirth. HMD Global the mobile vendor behind Nokia branded phones has relaunched the classic Nokia 8110 feature phone in a new avatar – called simply the Nokia 8110 4G.
The Nokia 8110 4G still features the slide opening design which packs the intuitive tactile mechanics. As you guess, you need to slide open to answer calls and slide back in to end them (taking me back to old Matrix style). You also get the addictive helicopter style spin on its axis.
As with any Nokia phones you know, the feature phone is built for durability and reliability. It got a Polycarbonate shell keeping its sturdy and offering extra protection all around. It also got IP52 drip protection. The device flaunts a 2.4-inch curved QVGA display. For colour choices, you get to choose from Traditional Black and Banana Yellow.
The Upgrades
Under the hood, the new Nokia 8110 got a massive upgrade. It’s now powered by a 1.1 GHz dual-core MSM8905 Qualcomm 205 mobile platform paired with 512MB of RAM. The feature phone carries 4GB of eMMC internal memory. There is also a 2-megapixel rear camera with LED flash support.
The Nokia 8110 4G comes with 4G connectivity and even support VoLTE for making HD voice calls. It also packs WLAN IEEE 802.11 b/g/n allowing you to create wireless Hotspots, Bluetooth 4.1 and GPS/AGPS. It packs a 1500 mAh removable battery that offers up to 25 days of standby time from a single charge.
The Nokia 8110 4G feature phone runs on Smart Feature OS powered by KaiOS. It comes preloaded with special versions of Google Assistant, Google Search, Google Maps, Facebook and Twitter, Outlook and Gmail. You could download more apps through a dedicated app store. Well, the feature phone also comes with a revamped version of Snake game.
As for availability, the Nokia 8110 4G will be going on sale from May 2018 and around that time it will launch in India. HMD global has priced the feature phone at €79 (or approximately Rs 6,300 in India).
