HMD Global the mobile brand behind Nokia smartphones is reviving its Sirocco brand name. During the MWC 2018, the company is unveiling its true premium flagship android smartphone – Nokia 8 Sirocco. The first Sirocco branded Nokia phone was launched way back in the year 2006 with Nokia 8800 Sirocco edition. Way similar to that, the Nokia 8 Sirocco boasts premium design and build, powerful hardware, enhanced camera and according to the company it’s an ultra-compact powerhouse.
Design and Performance
Nokia 8 Sirocco is milled out of a single piece of stainless steel frame with curved glass finish at a 2mm thick edge. The phone is IP68 certified making it water and dust resistant from all sides. It flaunts a 5.5-inch QHD 2K pOLED curved edge-to-edge display with smaller bezels and moulded body curves. The screen is protected with full 3D Corning Gorilla Glass 5 that curves around all sides offering both strength and beauty.
Under the hood, the Nokia 8 Sirocco is powered by Octa core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 mobile platform paired with 6 GB LPPDDR 4X RAM and 128GB of USF 2.1 storage. The phone runs on Android Oreo OS and is part of Google’s Android One initiative. Thus you get a cluttered free Android experience, which will receive regular security updates and two years of OS upgrades.
Dual camera and Connectivity
Just like the recently launched Nokia 7 Plus, the Nokia 8 Sirocco boasts dual rear camera sensors with ZEISS optics. This includes a combination of 12-megapixel wide-angle primary ZEISS camera with f/1.7 aperture and 78.2-degree field of view. Paired with a secondary 13-megapixel telephoto ZEISS camera with f/2.6 aperture that delivers 2x optical zoom. Supporting the rear camera is a dual-tone flash.
The mobile packs a Pro Camera mode through which you could use to manually adjust white balance, focus, ISO, shutter speed and exposure compensation for that perfect photo. In the front, the Nokia 8 Sirocco has an ultra-sensitive 5-megapixel wide-angle lens supported with display flash. The phone also comes with Dual-Sight mode or “bothie” mode, which allows you to use both front and back cameras of the phone simultaneously for split-screen photos and video.
For audiophiles, the Nokia 8 Sirocco has a single speaker system with Smart Amp. With its three high-quality microphones, the phone can record every sonic nuance with Nokia spatial audio, dubbed as “pro audio”. It can provide a high dynamic range of 24-bit audio and ability to record at up to 132 decibels.
Coming to connectivity, Nokia 8 Sirocco supports 4G LTE network with full VoLTE support for making HD voice calls. Other connectivity options include 3G and 2G network support, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (MIMO), Bluetooth 5.0, USB Type-C and NFC. There is also a fingerprint scanner placed on the back of the device.
