With a big upgrade to its processor, minor changes to its candy bar design, lots of extra features and an addition of USB Type-C port, Nokia has its first official smartphone release for the year 2018. HMDGlobal the mobile vendor who has the exclusive rights for Nokia brand has launched the second-generation Nokia 6 (2018) smartphone.
Currently, the smartphone will be a China exclusive for the next couple of month. We can expect the company to announce a global launch during the upcoming MWC 2018 event.
Design and Performance
Nokia is sticking to its heritage of the classic design and the Nokia 6 (2018) boasts a uni-body 6000 series aluminum solid material build. Capacitive keys have been dropped in favour of the on-screen navigation keys. Fingerprint scanner has also been moved around the back, just below the back camera module. The mobile now flaunts a 5.5-inch IPS LCD Full HD display (1920 x 1080) with a 16:9 aspect ratio and covered in Corning gorilla 2.5D glass over the top. For colour choices, you get to choose from Black or Silver colours.
Major changes on the second generation Nokia 6 (2018) is happening under the hood. The mobile is now powered by a 2.2GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 processor instead of the previous year’s Snapdragon 430 and it’s been paired with 4 GB of LPDDR4 RAM. For storing all your media content, the mobile will have either 32 GB or 64 GB of internal storage. You can further expand the storage up to 128 GB using microSD card.
Nokia 6 (2018) runs on the stock Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS with a guaranteed update to Android Oreo and further. The company also guarantees regular security updates for the phone.
Camera and Connectivity
Coming to photography, the Nokia 6 (2018) boasts a 16-megapixel PDAF focus rear camera with f2 aperture and dual LED flash. For selfie addicts, there is an 8-megapixel front camera with the f2 aperture and 84-degree wide-angle lens.
What makes the Nokia 6 (2018) camera stand-out is the Dual view mode. With this camera mode, you can use the front and back camera simultaneously for photo and video shooting. The mobile also comes with high-fidelity spatial audio recording feature.
As for connectivity, the Nokia 6 (2018) supports 4G LTE network that works with every Indian telcos 4G band. Along with it, you also get VoLTE support for making HD voice calls. Other connectivity options include 3G and 2G networks, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 5.0 and USB Type-C port.
The Nokia 6 (2018) comes with a Smart single speaker and has kept the 3.5mm-type Headphone jack intact. The phone is fuelled by a 3000 mAh battery that comes with a fast USB-Type C charger which can deliver up to 50 percent power in 30 minutes.
