Riding strong on the popularity of first-generation Moto Z Play in India, Lenovo-owned Motorola has launched the second generation Moto Z2 Play android smartphone in India. The phone has become more compact, thinner, comes with more powerful Snapdragon chipset, better camera, 4G VoLTE support and packs semi-modular capabilities with Moto Mods.
Going first through pricing, the Moto Z2 Play gets a price tag of Rs 27,999. The mobile will be available exclusively on Flipkart with pre-order starting today (8th June). The actual sale will only start from 15th June 2017 and will also be available at offline stores across India. Motorola is packing lots of launch day offers including the no-cost EMI option, 50 percent discount on Moto Mods, free armour pack and 100 GB additional 4G data with Reliance Jio.
Design and Performance
Keeping in line with last years premium design, the Moto Z2 Play got a ultra-slim aluminum unibody. For those accidental water splashes, the mobile is covered with water-repellent nano-coating inside out. On the front, you have the AMOLED display along with a home button that houses the fingerprint scanner. Whereas on the back you get the classy Motorola style round camera housing. For colour choices, you get to choose from Lunar Gray and Fine Gold colours.
The Moto Z2 Play flaunts a 5.5-inch full HD super AMOLED 1920 x 1080 display with a pixel density of 401 PPI. The device also features Moto Display, which allows you to check and respond to the notification without even unlocking the phone. Under the hood, the mobile is powered by a 2.2 GHz Octa-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 processor coupled with 4GB of RAM. The phone also packs the Adreno 506 GPU along with Natural Language Processor and Contextual Computing Processor. For storage, the mobile comes with 64GB internal storage. You can further expand the storage up to 2TB using microSD card.
Camera and Connectivity
Coming to photography, Moto Z2 Play comes with a 12-megapixel Dual autofocus pixel rear camera. It features f/1.7 aperture that can capture more light, combines laser autofocus and dual autofocus pixels (PDAF) and Color Correlated Temperature (CCT) dual LED flash. The camera can conveniently shoot 4K quality videos at 30fps.
For selfie addicts out there, the Moto Z2 Play offers a 5-megapixel front camera. The camera module features f/2.2 aperture, wide-angle lens to cover all your friends in one snap and front-facing dual CCT flash.
As for connectivity, the Moto Z2 Play supports 4G LTE that works with every Indian telcos 4G band. The mobile also supports VoLTE for making HD voice and video calls. Other connectivity options include 3G and 2G networks, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n 2.4 GHz + 5 GHz, Bluetooth 4.2 LE, and NFC. The mobile runs on the latest Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS with almost stock UI. Fingerprint scanner up front also doubles as the navigation button of the phone. You can swipe left to back, swipe right to access recent apps and tap once to go home and long press to lock the phone. The whole device is fuelled by a 3000 mAh battery that can last easily for 30 hours. It also packs the TurboPower charger that can give you 8 hours of battery in just 15minutes of charging.
Moto Mods
The Moto Z family line comes with unique semi-modular capabilities called Moto Mods. You can swap in any Moto Mods to upgrade or enhance the certain functions of the phone. Like the JBL Sound Boost 2 adds a powerful stereo speaker to your phone. With Hasselblad True Zoom Moto Mod you can enhance your mobile photography, which adds Xenon flash, 10x optical zoom and RAW format shots. There is an Insta-share projector that can project images and videos up to 70-degree on any surface from any angle.
Moto Z2 Play is compatible with all previous regeneration and new Moto Mods. However, you need to shell out more money to buy the Moto Mods which are available on Amazon India. Talking about price, JBL Sound Boost will cost you around Rs 5999, whereas the Hasselblad True Zoom Camera is priced at Rs 19,999.
