Lenovo, Motorola unveiled the flagship android smartphones under its Moto Z family – Moto Z and Moto Z Play in India. At a quick glance, the power-packed smartphones come with a top-the-line processor, innovative semi-modular capabilities, ample memory and high-speed 4G VoLTE.
First, to the pricing, the high-end Moto Z comes with a price tag of Rs 39,999. Whereas the Moto Z Play will cost you around Rs 24,999. Both smartphones will be available on Amazon India and Flipkart starting from 17th October 2016.
Coming to the Moto Mods, the JBL SoundBoost speaker will cost Rs 6999, the Hasselblad true zoom camera comes with a price tag of Rs 19,999. For the Insta-share projector, you need to pay Rs 19,999, whereas the Incipio offGRID Power Pack will cost you Rs 5999. Do note that you can get a better discount on all Moto Mods when purchased with the smartphones.
Moto Z
The powerful among the two, the Moto Z got a razor-thin and ultra-light design. Design-wise the smartphone boasts an aluminium and stainless steel unibody offering a premium look and feel. For those accidental water splashes, the mobile comes with water-repellent nano-coating inside out.
Moto Z flaunts a 5.5-inch Quad HD AMOLED display that comes with a pixel density of 535 ppi. The gorgeous AMOLED display offers ultra-sharp detail which is almost 77 percent more pixels than a 1080p display.
Under the hood, the mobile is powered by a 1.8 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor coupled with 4GB RAM and Adreno 530 GPU. In addition, the mobile also packs a Natural Language Processor and Contextual Computing Processor. This combination offers blazing-fast performance during gaming and multitasking. For storage, the mobile comes with 32GB or 64GB internal storage option that can be further expanded up to 2TB using microSD card.
On to photography, the Moto Z comes with a 13-megapixel camera on the back. It features f/1.8 aperture, dual LED flash, laser autofocus and Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). With the camera, you can shoot 4K videos, slow motion videos, and videos in HDR. On the front for selfie lovers, the mobile got a 5-megapixel camera with f/2.2 aperture and wide-angle lens. For those gorgeous selfies, the front camera also comes with LED flash support.
For connectivity, the Moto Z comes with high-speed 4G LTE network (that support all Indian 4G bands) with VoLTE support. Other connectivity options include 3G, 2G, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.1 LE and NFC. The smartphone runs an almost pure version of Android 6.0.1, Marshmallow operating system.

Now to the main highlight of Moto Z smartphone, the semi-modular Moto Mods. This lets you snap the interchangeable backs with modules using integrated magnets. Some Moto Mods include the Hasselblad true zoom camera that offers up to 10X optical zoom, xenon flash, and RAW format shots.
The JBL SoundBoost moto mod offers an audio boost for the smartphone. The instal-share projector moto mod can project an image from your mobile to any surface. Lastly, the PowerPack moto mod can extend your battery life up to 23 hours.
Just like the latest Apple iPhone 7 and LeECo Le Max 2 smartphones, the Moto Z doesn’t come with 3.5 mm audio jack. Instead the mobile uses USB-C port for headphones, charging and data transfer. If you still want to use your old headphone, Motorola is packing a 3.5 mm to USB-C headphone port adapter with the retail box.
Moto Z Play
Moto Z Play is a slimmed down version of the flagship Moto Z smartphone. The notable feature here is the bigger 510mAh battery which can offer up to 50 hours of backup and a better 16-megapixel rear camera.
Moto Z Play flaunts a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED full HD display with a pixel density of 403 ppi. It comes with ‘Moto Display’ feature that offers a quick look at notification and updates on the screen without waking up the phone.
Under the hood, the Moto Z Play is powered by a 2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor coupled with 3GB RAM and Adreno 506 GPU. This offers an immense gaming and multitasking performance. For storage the mobile packs 32GB internal storage that can be further expanded using microSD card.
The Moto Z Play comes with a 16-megapixel camera on the back with two auto-focus technologies built in. This includes the laser autofocus and phase-detection autofocus (PDAF). For selfie lovers, the phone packs a 5-megapixel front-facing camera with wide-angle lens and an extra flash support.
For connectivity, the Moto Z Play got the dual-SIM capability. The mobile supports 4G LTE with VoLTE, 3G, 2G, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 LE and NFC. The mobile runs on Android 6.0.1, Marshmallow operating system with no skin over the top. For added security, the Moto Z Play also comes with a fingerprint scanner.
