After the Supreme Court decision to cancel 122 2G telecom licenses, Loop Telecom has decided to wind up its telecom operations in India following the path of other effected telecom providers S Tel and Cheers Mobile /Etisalat DB. Loop Mobile has decided to close down its operations in 13 of its telecom circle, except in Mumbai, where they will still continue to provide the service. Mumbai accounts for about 3 million subscribers for Loop mobile. It has asked all GSM customers to port out from their network to another operator using Mobile number portability (MNP), before May 15th, on that day loop mobile will be completely shutdown its network operations.
Loop Mobile has roughly 6,000 subscribers in this 13 telecom circles which includes Kolkata, Assam, Bihar, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra (except Mumbai), North East, Orissa, Punjab, Rajasthan and Uttar pradesh (West). Loop mobile will continue its operation in Mumbai telecom circle, so subscribers from their need not worry.
“We have no other option. The company has already advertised in newspapers for shifting our customers on other network through MNP (Mobile Number Portability). This activity does not impact our operations in Mumbai under Loop Mobile as this is a separate licence. Operations in Mumbai will continue and subscribers in Mumbai remain unaffected,” Loop Telecom spokesperson said.
Loop mobile has also started issuing job termination notices for all its employees in the respective telecom circles. This will affect around 150 employees working for Loop Telecom.
“We have no other option. All employees have been made aware. We will soon issue them formal notice,” the Loop Telecom spokesperson said.
Loop Mobile has 21 telecom license out of this they are now closing down its operations in 13 telecom circles. Loop Telecom has been advertising about the close down on all major newspaper and through direct call and SMS. Subscribers can now generate UPC code for MNP to switch over to another operator by visiting the nearest Loop Mobile Customer office or through online from official website.
