Yet another variant of LG’s popular V30 smartphone has been announced during the Mobile World Congress 2018. Called LG V30S ThinQ and LG V30S+ ThinQ with both boasting company’s advanced artificial intelligence technology. The AI-based addition enhances the device camera, software and voice capability.

ThinQ, LG’s AI technology was introduced a few weeks ago during the CES 2018. It identifies all of LG’s home appliances, consumer electronics and services that utilize artificial intelligence. LG V30S ThinQ will be its first mobile device to that family.

Available in Moroccan Blue and Platinum Gray colour choices, the LG V30S ThinQ packs almost the same hardware of that of its older sibling LG V30. You get the 6-inch QHD+ OLED FullVision 2880 x 1440 display with an aspect ratio of 18:9 up in the front. On the back, it got a textured glass finish that protects it from stains and smudges. It also has an IP68 rating, protecting the device from dust and water.

Under the hood, the LG V30S ThinQ still packs the old 2.45Ghz Quad Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor coupled with now upgraded 6GB of RAM. This might come as a disappointment to a lot of consumers who were expecting the much powerful Snapdragon 845 SoC on board. The LG V30S ThinQ carries 128GB of internal storage, wheres the LG V30S+ ThinQ comes with 256GB of internal storage. On both variants, you can further upgrade the storage up to 2TB with a MicroSD card. The mobile runs Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box with LG’s UX 6.0 over the top.

Camera with Vision AI

Now to the bigger changes in LG V30S ThinQ, where the cameras are integrated with LG’s Vision AI. For the rear dual camera setup, you get a combination of a 16-megapixel camera with f/1.6 glass lens. It also features OIS, EIS, and Hybrid Auto Focus with Laser Detection Auto Focus and Phase Detection Auto Focus (PDAF). The second camera carries a 13-megapixel 120-degree wide-angle lens with EIS and f/1.9 aperture.

LG’s Vision AI is integrated on this camera, which includes three camera features – AI Cam, QLens, and Bright Mode. The AI Cam can analyse the subject you’re shooting and recommends the optimal shooting mode for enhanced picture quality. Some shooting modes include portrait, food, pet, landscape, city, flower, sunrise, and sunset. Each of this shooting mode enhances the characteristics of the subject taking into account factors like the viewing angle, colour, reflections, lighting, and saturation level.

With QLens, you can scan QR codes of products and it will offer a suggestion as to where to buy the product online at the lowest price along with similar items suggestion. The Bright Mode uses algorithms to brighten images and improve low-light shots.

For selfie addicts, the LG V30S ThinQ comes with a 5-megapixel from the camera. It features a 90-degree wide-angle field-of-view with a f/2.2 aperture lens.

Voice AI and audio

Another AI-based addition on LG V30S ThinQ is the Voice AI. It allows you to run apps and change settings just with your voice commands. The company has packed almost 50 commands in the device, out of which, 34 commands are LG exclusive. The Voice AI will also work alongside with Google Assistant, so you could take advantage of both services.

LG V30S ThinQ can record Hi-Fi sound with its 2 high-quality mics and a receiver that can capture unmuffled and distortion-free sound. For the purest audio experience, the mobile comes with 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC, powered by ESS technology. This offers crystal clear high-quality sound by minimizing distortion and ambient noise.

Connectivity

As for connectivity, the LG V30S ThinQ comes with 4G LTE that will support every Indian telcos 4G band. Other connectivity option includes 3G and 2G network support, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0 BLE, NFC and USB Type-C. For added security, there is a fingerprint scanner at the back of the device below the main camera module. In addition, you can secure your phone with Face Recognition and Voice Recognition based biometric security. The mobile is fueled by a 3,300mAh battery that supports Quick Charge 3.0 and wireless charging.

LG has not yet announced the pricing and availability of LG V30S ThinQ. We could expect the company to offer the device under a price tag of 40K.
