Finally, LG pulled the wrap off its 2017 flagship android smartphone – the LG G6 at MWC 2017, Barcelona. Well, we already know the design and bit more specification, thanks to the leaks. On a quick glance, the mobile flaunts a big screen with 18:9 aspect ratio, dual 13-megapixel wide-angle camera, dust and water resistant, 4G connectivity with VoLTE support and it also packs the Google Assistant.

Let’s dig deep into what we don’t know about the LG G6. The mobile ditched the experimental modular design launched with G5. Instead, the LG G6 has gone with the industry standard unibody metal and glass design. On the front its just the big screen leaving only a small bezel. It got an IP68 rating and MIL-STD-810G standards, which means the body is sealed to be dust and water resistant. In addition, the body is strong enough to withstand accidental drops. This two features we always want with any flagship smartphones. As for the colour options, the mobile will come in Astro Black, Ice Platinum, and Mystic White.

Display and Power

The LG G6 flaunts a 5.7-inch QHD LCD display with a pixel resolution of 2880×1440 pixels and 564 ppi. What makes it stand out is the 18:9 aspect ratio (or mathematically 2:1), that basically makes watching videos a cinematic experience. It also packs HDR10 and Dolby Vision that allows superior picture quality on the screen. One bad thing about the big screen is its taller and so touching the top of the screen by one hand is pretty hard. But LG has redesigned the entire user interface to match up the big screen and make it little easy to use in one hand.

Under the hood, the LG G6 is powered by the good old Snapdragon 821 processor, thanks to Samsung who actually bought the entire stock of latest Snapdragon 825. The processor is coupled with 4GB of RAM. For storing all your media content the mobile comes in either 32GB or 64GB of internal storage option.

Dual Camera

Giving an upgrade (or downgrade?) to the LG V20 dual camera setup, the LG G6 packs a dual 13-megapixel camera on the back. It features 125-degree wide-angle lens making it perfect for capturing those images and videos with a wider perspective. Well with the back camera you can capture those blurry background photos like you may do in DSLR cameras.

On the front for selfie addicts, the LG G6 comes with the 5-megapixel camera. It also features a 100-degree wide-angle lens allowing you to capture all your friends in one big selfie. With gesture control in place, you can just open your hand’s palm in front of the camera to trigger the shot.

Connectivity

As for connectivity goes, the LG G6 comes with 4G LTE, 3G and 2G network support. It will fully support all Indian 4G bands along with VoLTE for HD voice and video calling. Other connectivity options include WiFi, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC and USB Type-C. The mobile runs on the latest Android 7.0 Nougat OS out of the box with LG’s UX 6.0 over the top. One important addition is the built-in Google Assistant, which was earlier exclusive for Pixel smartphones.

For purest audio experience LG G6 will feature the 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC, powered by ESS Technology. This offers crystal clear high-quality sound by minimising distortion and ambient noise.

So what’s about pricing and availability? LG has still not announced official pricing for the G6. We expect it to retail for around Rs 40,000 considering the old Snapdragon chip it packs. As for availability, it’s expected to land in India during April-May 2017.
