After the revamped Bilingual Indian elections portal, Google India has introduced the ‘Know Your Candidates’ tool, that provides greater insight about all political candidates contesting in the Lok Sabha Elections 2014.
Know Your Candidates tool provide information on each sitting Lok Sabha MP and contesting candidates in your constituency such as their disclosed educational background, financial declaration, political alliance, criminal background, Age and social media presence.
The whole tool is build over the Google Maps interface where the information are displayed in a streamlined manner. One can know about the candidates in their constituencies by just using pin codes of your area or by zooming into your locality on the map.
Google collects this data from the publicly available information sourced from Indian organizations such as the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), PRS Legislative Research and Liberty Institute India. In-addition Ping Network produces YouTube candidate bios which is then integrates with the tool.
Other than the Know Your Candidates tool, Google India election portal (www.google.co.in/elections) provide voters access to every buzz related to elections and politics, host the ‘Pledge to Vote’ campaign, Google score tool for politicians, Search trends with infographics and YouTube Elections hub.
