Karbonn is one of those new entrants into the Indian Mobile Market to have taken it by storm. The Indian company has in just over five years, become one of the top five mobile handset manufacturers. This is due to the vast array of quality, affordable handsets that they have released not only in the Indian market, but also in markets such as Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and the Middle East.
The company at the cusp of 2013 launched a new handset – the Titanium S4. The device is positioned in the market as a mid-range device. Although it’s available in some online stores, it’s yet to hit the retail stores all over the country. Let’s have a look at what we expect from this device.
The Design Elements
Among the various phone manufacturers, Karbonn hasn’t really had a phone with overstated design elements. This device continues that tradition. The dimensions of the phone are 135.0 x 59.0 x 7.9 mm which means it’d feel good in the hand. We’re expecting a body made out of plastic. Also, like most other phones in the category, all the slots for the SIM-card, memory card and the headphone jack should be positioned in a well-thought of manner.
The Technical Side of Things
The phone ships with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. The processor is a 1.2 GHZ one and it’s paired with 1GB RAM – that’s enough for most users and will make multi-tasking an ease. The in-built memory is 4GB – not the best we’ve seen, but with a memory card you can increase this up to 64GB so we’re not complaining. Karbonn is shipping these phones with a dual-SIM card slot. Karbonn became famous for its dual-SIM enabled phones and the company is sticking to its tried and tested success formula.
The new Karbonn phone sports a 4.7-inch AMOLED HD with a 1280x720p resolution. While huge screens have somewhat become the norm these days, it’s great to see Karbonn sensibly restricting the size of the screen to a manageable 4.7 inches. That would enable users to comfortably hold the phone in their hands and keep in their trousers or jeans.
The Camera
The camera on the phone is a 13 megapixel one and it comes with auto-focus and flash support. The front camera is a 2 megapixel one. The camera quality on the phone is supposed to be very high and we can’t wait to get our hands on this. It’s expected that HD recording will be an option and as far as the specs go, we see nothing to complain or frown upon.
Verdict
Karbonn is one of those manufacturers that seems to have carved out a niche for itself in the mobile phone industry. The company is sticking to certain tried and tested formulas while adding new innovative features to its handsets. The Titanium S4 is one such handset. Based on what we’ve heard, this seems to be a good device. We’ll review the device when we get our hands on it.
