We all knew it was coming and to disrupt the dominance of Flipkart and Amazon. Reliance Retail part of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has soft-launched its ambitious e-commerce and online grocery shop venture called JioMart. It’s currently available as a special invite to Reliance Jio (another subsidiary of RIL) subscribers in parts of the state of Maharashtra – Navi Mumbai, Kalyan and Thane.
Desh Ki Nayi Dukaan (new shop for the country) as it’s been marketed, the JioMart currently offers its users options to shop from over 50,000 grocery products. What’s makes the new commerce venture unique is the free home delivery with no minimum order value, no-questions-asked return policy and an express delivery promise.
“Yes, we have soft-launched our operations. All Jio users are sent invites to register to avail of preliminary discounts. Though it is currently only in three regions, we would be scaling it up further. The JioMart app will be launched soon,” said an official to Livemint.
Jio subscribers, on the other hand, can save up to Rs 3000 on any orders via pre-registering for JioMart. You could freely register for the service through the official landing page of JioMart. Currently, order placement and delivery are within selected areas of Navi Mumbai, Kalyan and Thane. The company would gradually scale up its presence in the coming months. During the initial stage, JioMart is said to offer daily staples, soaps, shampoos, and other household items.
With JioMart, Reliance is building an online-to-offline marketplace which will source products from neighbourhood grocery stores, merchants, traders and brands. It’s similar to what Grofers, BigBasket and Amazon Prime Now used to do, but here in a much bigger way. The company aims to connect over 30 million neighbourhood stores through the venture, as said by Ambani while addressing the 42nd AGM earlier this year. Don’t forget RIL already has a massive presence in the offline market. Thanks to nearly 10,000 physical stores (Reliance Trends, Reliance Fresh, Reliance Mart, Reliance Digital, Hamleys and AJIO) in more than 6,500 Indian cities and towns, which serves more than 3.5 million customers each week.
JioMart is also offering 24×7 WhatsApp assistance to its customers for faster resolution of any issue you may face. To connect with JioMart WhatsApp assistance message “Hello” to “7000370003” on WhatsApp.
