Earlier there was punch missing in the name ‘HERE Maps’, but today it seems they just got that. The popular location service app HERE Maps is now called HERE WeGo. Along with the name change, the app got a major overhaul in its functionality and design.

So what changed? The search box now takes you directly to selecting a destination, which once entered takes you to choosing the different navigation modes. That’s an extra click on the ‘find a route’ icon you just avoided.

HERE Maps app gets a name change to HERE WeGo

Major design overhaul is on the route comparison screen, where you now get additional car-sharing transport option alongside the existing car, public transit, cycling and pedestrian options. Nevertheless, this new change won’t be much use here in India unless HERE goes for a partnership with OLA Cabs, Uber or other regional providers.

Selected cities will show taxi information for your route, listed along with estimated fares, wait time and a call button.

If you are cycling a lot, then the HERE WeGo app now shows elevation profiles on the bicycle route along with the effort required. HERE WeGo also got a lighter colored background to improve readability mostly when there’s more information on the screen.

The new changes are currently live for Android and iOS, HERE WeGo app available on respective Google Play store and Apple iTunes. The changes will also be available on the web soon.
