Google Inc. has quietly launched their hyperlocal services app, Areo in India. Areo offers loads of services including food delivery from your favourite restaurants, providers and chefs. Home services like local electricians, painters, cleaners, plumbers can also be hired.
Areo is an umbrella service under which different startups have partnered with Google. UrbanClap and Zimmber for home services and Freshmenu, Box8 and Faasos for food ordering are some of the partners. Currently, the services is live and limited to Bangalore and Mumbai. Google’s Areo is like an agent who works with basic service providers in your area, however, such an idea isn’t new to Indian hyperlocal market. Companies like Swiggy, UrbanClap, Housejoy, Zimmber, and QuickServices have existing location-based services similar to Aero. Now with the entry of Google, we can expect more startups to pair up and expand the service to other cities.
The UI and usage of the app are fairly simple. A user needs to add his address by auto location with google service or manual dropping of a pin. Once this is done you get to choose from a range of services like food delivery, beauty, home maintenance, chores/cleaning, repairs/installation, fitness and lots of other services. All you need to do is select the service, add it your cart and check out. As a promotional offer, Google is giving Rs. 200 discount on any of the available service in your location.

We did try this awesome app for ordering food and the experience was smooth. So have a try, and if your location doesn’t offer any service, you are out of luck at the moment. We can expect the addition of more locations and services, but depending on the reception, the program might continue or not. At the moment Google isn’t charging its partners and says that this service is an experiment. So, do check it out [link] and let us know your experience. Hope you enjoyed the article. Peace!
