The shop owner or the person at the point of sale issuing the SIM card will still need to verify the details of the customers e-Aadhaar letter with UIDAI. This includes name, address, date of birth and gender details.

This sales person will also have to take a declaration from the customer, that the details mentioned in the e-Aadhaar letter have been matched with the details received from the UIDAI. Without this declaration, the e-Aadhaar letter will not be accepted as a valid document proof.

Earlier this year the GSM and CDMA industry bodies, COAI and AUSP has requested the telecom department to accept e-Aadhaar as a valid document for new mobile connection.
