A much awaited news for the music industry and for the whole “anti-piracy” groups, Honb Calcutta high court has issued a judgement to 11 internet service providers (ISP) in the country to block famous illegal music sharing site Songs.pk in India. This decision was brought by two industry bodies and one music company who have filled a legal restraint on 11 ISP companies to block access to the music website songs.pk.
The 11 major internet service and infrastructure providers who have been asked to block the illegal site contents include Dishnet Wireless Ltd, Reliance Wimax Ltd, Hathway Cable & Datacom Pvt Ltd, Hughes Communications Ltd India, Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) Ltd, Reliance Communications Infrastructure Ltd, Wipro Ltd, Sify Technologies Ltd, Bharti Airtel Ltd, Vodafone India Ltd, and BG Broadband India Pvt Ltd.
Phonographic Performance Ltd, The Indian Music Industry, and Sagarika Music Pvt Ltd where the companies seeking a restraint on internet access to download, stream, disseminate, and reproduce copyright music on this site, according to a public notice. As per the petition filled by Sagarika Music Pvt Ltd before the high court on 27 Jan, Court has passed an Injunction order, asking all majors ISP’s in the country to block access of users to this website by taking appropriate steps like DNS name blocking on ISP level, IP address blocking via routers, and DPI based URL blocking.
After 2-4 days of the court, still we are able to access the site on BSNL broadband, Airtel and Tata Docomo 3G, at the time of writing this post. It seems no ISP has actually blocked the access to this site. It may some times take time to implement this (not this much time). The decision is fully welcomed by the whole music industry and “anti-piracy” groups, this will limit the users from downloading illegal musics.
