Govt and courts all over the world are taking action against online pirated media sites, like the FBI shutting down popular file sharing site Megaupload. In India its no difference the Indian Music Industry (IMI), a consortium of 142 music companies in India has obtained an order from Honb Calcutta High Court which directs all Internet Service Providers in India ( which is about 387 ISP providers) to block 104 illegal music sharing sites in India.
Initially IMI asked court to block 300 illegal music sharing sites, but eventually brought down to 104 sites which are based on the amount of pirated contents found on those sites. Court has passed an Injunction order, asking all majors ISP’s in the country to block access of users to this website by taking appropriate steps like DNS name blocking on ISP level, IP address blocking via routers, and DPI based URL blocking, this is similar to the action taken against song pk some months ago.
Apurv Nagpal, CEO of Saregama, told MediaNama that “the first order was against songs.pk, and subsequent court orders covered the rest of the sites. The IMI made a case against each website, he added, with proof of piracy of content from labels by each site“.
When tried some of the sites from list, we where able to access it without any issues. It seems ISP’s still didn’t start blocking this sites. Court ordered to block this pirated sites within next 36 hours and we think ISP will block this sites within this time frame.
