Adding a new revenue stream for the telco and a much affordable cable TV option for customers, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has officially launched Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) service through Bharat Fiber in India. Initially, as a pilot phase, the BSNL IPTV is available only in Kerala telecom circle and limited to Ernakulam, Alappuzha and Thrissur localities.
So what’s the buzz on BSNL IPTV? As the name suggests its Internet Protocol Television or you could watch TV channels directly over Internet Protocol (IP) networks. So, it’s live streaming of your favourite TV channels over the internet. Unlike the traditional DTH or cable TV services, IPTV offers the ability to watch programs live and on-demand services. Thus for BSNL IPTV to work, first you need to have a high-speed internet connection and in BSNL case an active Bharat Fiber connection.
BSNL IPTV – Registration & Features
To get BSNL IPTV service, first, you need to subscribe to a Bharat Fiber or BSNL FTTH plans. Once you have the high-speed broadband connection, you could apply for the BSNL IPTV service. Currently, the service is limited to Ernakulam, Alappuzha and Thrissur area in Kerala circle.
According to a tweet from the officials, BSNL IPTV service will offer over 150 free to air or FTA channels and over 150 pay channels. You also have the complete control of choosing and subscribing to any FTA or Pay Channels to stream. The telco will also provide user-friendly IPTV packages for customers, the price of which has not yet been revealed.
As an early bird offer, customers registering for the BSNL IPTV service before 10th September would get free one month access to FTA pack. You could seamlessly access the service through Android Box, Android TVs or mobile.
- To register for BSNL IPTV, you need to be an existing BSNL Bharat Fiber Customer. Once you have an active BSNL Bharat Fiber connection, you could apply for BSNL IPTV service.
- Apply for BSNL IPTV service by filling the form.
- You need to validate your Bharat Fiber phone number along with e-mail and mobile number.
- You will be shown a list of IPTV Vendors available in your circle.
- Choose the IPTV Vendor and register for the service.
- On of the BSNL representative will contact you with further instructions.
