We have a new smart watch to look out. Apple in the first-ever event held at the Steve Jobs Theater unveiled the third-generation Apple Watch, the Apple Watch Series 3. It almost has the same premium design of its older Series 2 and Series 1, but packs improved hardware and software with a built-in speaker for Siri to talk to you.
One important addition to this year Apple Watch Series 3, is the built-in LTE connectivity. Just like in a James Bond movie you can make and take voice calls on your Apple Watch. As it gains own internet connectivity, you can stream millions of songs from Apple Music. The device uses e-sim instead of the regular nano SIMs and will use the same number as your smartphones. So, this feature needs the telecom operator help to implement and I doubt it’s coming anytime soon in India.
Talking about the hardware, the Apple Watch Series 3 now packs a 70 percent faster dual-core processor. It has a new custom W2 wireless chip, which offers faster and power efficient Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. New sensors that add up in the Watch Series 3 includes Barometric altimeter. This can determine altitude attained while you’re hiking, running and walking. There also a better heart-rate tracking with watch constantly calculate your base heart rate. Another feature being added to the watch is its swim proof or water resistant to a great extent.
Thinking, where Apple hide the antenna? the Watch Series 3 uses its display as a cellular network antenna. In addition to the cellular connectivity, you also get the usual GPS. The watch runs on the latest Apple watchOS4. Apple guarantees all-day battery life (around 18-hour) with the new Watch.
As usual, Apple is filling the Watch Series 3 with lots of colours. You get to choose from Silver, Space Gray, Gold-aluminum and Ceramic (White and Grey). There is also a dozen of colourful straps to choose from. Finally, to the pricing, the standard Apple Watch Series 3 without LTE is priced at $329 or around 21,000. Whereas the Apple Watch Series 3 with all the bells and whistles including LTE will retail for $399 or around Rs 25,600. The device will start shipping from 22nd September 2017 but has not announced when it will be available in India.
