Remember the cheapest iPhone model which debuted in 2016? Almost after four years from the original iPhone SE launch, Apple has unveiled a newer version of the smartphone – the iPhone SE or iPhone SE (2020) or iPhone SE 2nd generation. You can call it anything, but according to Apple, it’s just the iPhone SE.

On a quick run down, iPhone SE sports a 4.7-inch display with physical home button carrying the Touch ID sensor, a single rear-facing camera unit and comes with the powerful A13 Bionic chip on board. The phone runs on the latest iOS 13 out-of-the-box.

The Apple iPhone SE price in India starts at Rs 42,500, for the variant packing 64GB storage. For 128GB storage variant of the phone, you need to shell out Rs 47,800. The price goes all way up to Rs 58,300 for the 256GB storage variant. For colour options, you get to choose from Black, White, and (Product) RED options. The company has not yet revealed the store availability of the phone in India. But you could expect it to go on sale through leading online stores like Amazon India and Flipkart in the coming months.

iPhone SE (2020) Features list

The new iPhone SE looks quite similar to the iPhone 8 with glass and aerospace-grade aluminium built. It features an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance, thus surviving splashes, sprinkles, sprays, splatters and spills. But do note that liquid damage is not covered under warranty. So don’t take your phone for a swim.

The iPhone SE flaunts a 4.7-inch Retina HD IPS LCD display with 1334-by-750-pixel resolution and 326 ppi pixel density. It does have True Tone tech to adjust the white balance on the display. It also features Haptic Touch support and comes with full Dolby Vision and HDR10 support.

Apple launches the iPhone SE (2020)

Under the hood, the iPhone SE got the same A13 Bionic chip as in the flagship iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro. It’s also integrated with third-generation Neural Engine, which adds up to the machine learning department enabling computational photography or allowing segmentation masks and semantic rendering to photos you take with the camera.

So when talking about the camera, the new iPhone SE comes with a single 12-megapixel rear-facing camera. It features f/1.8 aperture, OIS, next-generation Smart HDR for photos and 5x digital zoom. Coupling with the above SoC and neural engine, it offers portrait mode with advanced bokeh and depth control. You could choose from six studio-quality effects and adjust the lighting intensity with Portrait Lighting.

With the camera, you could shoot 4K videos at 60fps and offers cinematic video stabilization. With the extended dynamic range, you get greater detail in highlights and shadows. It also supports recording Slo-mo videos in 1080p at 120 fps or 240 fps.

For selfies, the iPhone SE features a single 7-megapixel front-facing camera. It features an f/2.2 aperture and also comes with Portrait mode.

Connectivity options in iPhone SE include dual SIM (nano-SIM and eSIM) with support for 4G LTE, VoLTE, 802.11ax Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC and Lightning port. For security, the phone comes with a Touch ID fingerprint sensor built into the Home button.

As always, there are no details on the battery pack included in an Apple phone. Yet, the iPhone SE can last about the same as iPhone 8. You could get up to 13 hours of video playback on a single charge. It comes with an 18W fast-charge adapter which could charge the phone from zero to 50 per cent in 30 minutes. The phone also supports wireless charging using the Qi wireless charging standard.
