Almost one year back, Amazon added Unified Payments Interface (UPI) platform to its payment gateway. This allowed you to make payment seamlessly with a few steps. At that time you would need to add your own UPI ID (from other BHIM UPI apps like Google Pay or Phonepe) for the payment. A few months back, Amazon introduced its own UPI handle, thus allowing you to link your bank account with an Amazon UPI ID and paying directly via Amazon Pay. Taking one step further, Amazon has enabled person-to-person (P2P) payments through UPI on Amazon app via Amazon Pay UPI.
With P2P support for Amazon Pay UPI, customers will able to make instant money transfer bank-to-bank using UPI platform directly on the Amazon app. You could send or request money instantly and directly from the Amazon shopping app via Amazon pay.
With Amazon Pay UPI gaining P2P support, customers would able to make send/receive payment with friends, lend/return money to family, pay rents or pay bills and much more. You could even pay to your local kirana or grocery stores nearby via scanning UPI QR codes using the Amazon app. Furthermore, you could instantly transfer money from your bank account to your friend’s bank account who uses another UPI app or via bank account/IFSC combo.
“Our goal is to make Amazon Pay the most trusted, convenient and rewarding way to pay for our customers. The customers trust their Amazon app and we continue to expand payment use cases directly on the app” said Vikas Bansal, Director – Amazon Pay. “With this launch, we have the largest selection of shopping and payment use cases on the Amazon Android app which provides added convenience and control to our customers” he further added.
For repeated payments, you could easily find the recent transaction list on Amazon Pay. You could easily initiate a UPI P2P money transfer via accessing your phone contact book and tapping on the contact. Amazon then would auto-detect if the contact is a registered Amazon Pay UPI customer and enables the instant bank to bank transfer. Don’t worry if your content to whom you’re sending the money is not registered with Amazon Pay UPI, as you would get an option to pay using any another BHIM UPI ID or the contact’s bank account.
All P2P payments through Amazon Pay UPI are secured through multi-factor authentication involving customer’s phone, SIM details and UPI PIN. The money is transferred instantly and both customer and you would receive transaction notification via SMS and in-app notifications.
Amazon Pay UPI, person-to-person (P2P) payments are currently enabled only for Android users. Make sure you have updated your Amazon Android app to find this new feature enabled under the Amazon Pay settings. As a launch offer, Amazon is offering up to Rs 120 cashback on sending money through UPI.
