Amazon has silently published a new web browser called ‘Internet: fast, lite, and private’ on Google Play. Even though the app first appeared on 20th March 2018, it went unnoticed owing to no launch announcements. The name of the browser also feels rather generic, but the package name ‘com.amazon.cloud9.garuda‘ is interesting. So let us find out what Amazon has to offer in their new ‘Internet’ web browser app.

Internet: fast, lite, and private

The lite web browser ‘Internet’ from Amazon seems to be developed by their team in India. The app’s package name garuda meaning ‘eagle’ also indicates the same. The app also has an icon with a globe showing the Asian region and a feather probably of an eagle over it. All this indicate that this app was specifically designed for internet users in India.

According to the Play store listing, the app supports devices with Android 5.0 and up but most of the devices we tried were incompatible. However, we managed to grab the APK from another source to check out the app and its features. The app is very light as it claims even the install file weighs just 2.40 MB. Moreover, it did not ask for any extra permissions except storage and network access.

Like any other web browser, Internet also allows form input saving, full-screen mode, multiple tabs, and private browsing. You can also switch between Google and Bing for the browser search engines. The homepage is set to populate news, cricket and entertainment updates from popular sources. However, the homepage of the browser has some shortcuts which you cannot edit.

Remarks

The web browsing app ‘Internet’ delivers as promised by Amazon, but it still has less than a thousand installations. The main reason being the incompatibility with most Android devices. Additionally, Amazon did not make any announcements about this app. Currently, the app is available only for Android devices and is available from Google Play Store. If your device is incompatible, you can still try other sources like apkpure or apkmirror.
