If you’re bonded to the Sony universe enjoying The Kapil Sharma Show and Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah or repeatedly watching some of the super hit Bollywood and Hollywood movies then there is the all-new SonyLIV just for you. The completely revamped SonyLIV OTT platform gets a new coat of paint job and lots of UI tweaks on the web, mobile and TV. It’s getting filled with fresh originals, movies and all the Sony Indian TV channel shows. The streaming platform is promising “new story every Friday“.
At launch, there are two Indian originals – Jimmy Shergill-starrer crime thriller Your Honor and Ranvir Shorey-starrer comedy movie Kadakh. There is also one original English TV show airing – Nicholas Pinnock led “For Life” which is a fictional serialized legal and family drama.
In the coming months, SonyLIV has announced more originals including Avrodh: The Siege Within (based on the only first-hand account of the 2016 Surgical Strikes), directed by Raj Acharya. Undekhi directed by Ashish R Shukla and in led roles, we have Apurva Soni, Meenakshi Sethi, Sayandeep Sengupta, and Ayn Zoya. Then we have SOT: Surgical Operation Team, starring Marathi film star Gashmeer Mahajani and Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story.
SonyLIV new premium subscription rates
Along with the facelift, SonyLIV premium subscription has been hiked considerably. There are both free ad-supported, limited contents and premium ad-free exclusive contents on SonyLIV. When talking about premium subscription, the one-month SonyLIV premium membership now cost Rs 299. That’s a jump of around 200 per cent from the earlier monthly premium plan of Rs 99.
The six months SonyLIV premium subscription has been bumped up to Rs 699. That’s almost an increase of 134 per cent from the earlier Rs 299 for the half-yearly plan. Finally, the one-year SonyLIV premium subscription would now cost Rs 999. That’s a jump from earlier Rs 499 per year and almost 100 per cent increase.
The new pricing is already live on SonyLIV web, mobile app and TV. With almost double the rate for a premium membership, SonyLIV must now need to put out lots of content and exclusives to justify it.
