Enhancing coverage and to provide world-class 4G LTE services, India’s top telecom operator Bharti Airtel has partnered with Nokia for its 4G deployment across nine telecom circles in India.

Under the new agreement with Nokia, Airtel will expand its deployment of 4G technology in three new telecom circles in addition to six telecom circles it already serves. Nokia will deploy its 4G FDD-LTE and TD-LTE technology across all these telecom circles. This will eventually provide improved coverage and faster mobile internet services.

We have a long history of working with Bharti Airtel and with this latest agreement we have become the largest supplier of 4G for the company,” Sanjay Malik, head of India Market at Nokia. “This network expansion will provide the capacity, coverage and speeds the company needs to meet the next wave of data demand in India“.

  • Nokia will use its radio access with Single RAN technology for FDD-LTE and TD-LTE.
  • 4G deployment across nine of Airtel’s telecom circles in India.
  • Nokia will provide network integration and network planning and optimization.

Nokia will also expand Airtel’s 3G network in eight of the telecom circles as part of this rollout and also include the modernization of legacy 2G BTS.

The nine Airtel telecom circles include Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Rest of Bengal, Odisha, Mumbai, Maharashtra, Kerala and UP East, serving major cities such as Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Patna, and Siliguri.
