Airtel officially launched the most awaited 3G services today at a press conference/Event in Bangalore. In the press conference Airtel unveiled tariff plans for there 3G services and a new wireless 3G dongle ( USB Dongle). While Bangalore and the rest of Karnataka will get Airtel 3G immediately, it was revealed at the press conference that the rest of the circles would be getting the same very soon. Airtel also showed a coulple of their additional 3G services including live video streaming, movies on demand, songs download and live TV broadcast.

Airtel, one of the India’s largest telecom service providers has bagged the rights for offering 3G Services in Delhi, Mumbai, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, Jammu & Kashmir. So Karnataka becoming the first state to receive there service. The company said it was now targeting a rollout of 3G services across the rest of its 13 3G licence circles by March, thereby acknowledging it was running behind on the rollout.
Announcing Airtel 3G launch , Mr. Sanjay Kapoor, CEO – Bharti airtel Ltd (India & South Asia) said, “It is indeed the start of a new era when 3G services in India roll out on airtel’s network. World over ‘Data traffic’ on the back of high speed internet and use of social networking has already exceeded the ‘Voice traffic’. India is ushering in the domain – though later than most of the world – but no doubt we will catch up at a much faster speed. 3G is much more than a technology migration – it is a transformational shift – and airtel’s focus would be to bring to its customers an enriched user experience on the back of a world class delivery network. I welcome all 745 million mobile customers of the country to be a part of this journey with airtel!”
Airtel has announced two categories of 3G Plans ,keeping the focus on the user experience and relevant services, airtel’s 3G plans are personalized and simple to understand:
• Time-based plans for light users of data – where usage and billing will be by hour.
• Flexi-shield plans for heavy users of data – where usage and billing will be capped.

Rs. 9 for 10 MB, validity 1 day
Rs. 60 for 65 MB, validity 3 days
Rs. 103 for 100 MB, validity 30 days
Rs. 200 for 250 MB, validity 30 days
Rs. 450 for 600 MB, validity 30 days
Rs. 750 for 2 GB, validity 30 days
There is also another plan in which for Rs. 675 as a monthly rental and get 1.25 GB free usage on 3G. After that you pay for extra usage and max bill is Rs.2000 after which your speeds will drop to 128 Kbps.
Airtel also has special data plans for Samsung Galaxy Tab tablet, Samsung Galaxy S and Wave smartphones, and Nokia N8 smartphone. For the Samsung devices Airtel offers 2GB data download per month for 6 months at one-time charge of Rs.300. If you have a buy a new N8 phone and subscribe to Airtel mobile services (prepaid or postpaid), Airtel will give you free 2GB data per month for 6 months.
Airtel 3G Data card
Airtel is also offering 3G-enabled plug-and-play USB modem and datacards that will let you access the Internet on your laptop or PC at 3G speeds. The Airtel 3G USB modem is priced at Rs. 3,799. Airtel is said to offer attractive plans for its USB modem, such as, Rs. 999 per month for unlimited data usage. Other plans include Rs. 350/month for 500MB data and Rs. 599/month for 1GB data at 3G speeds.
Bharti airtel, which had close to 150 million mobile customers in India at the end of December 2010, has given contracts to leading global vendors —— Ericsson India, Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) and Huawei Technologies to set up infrastructure for providing 3G services in the country.
