The second iteration of low-cost Android tablet, Aakash 2 got launched by Indian President Pranab Mukherjee on the occasion of National Education Day. DataWind in joint collaboration with the Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry build the Aakash 2 and been offered at a special subsidized price for students at Rs 1,132. If you are looking to buy one then the commercial version of the Aakash 2 unit which is branded as UbiSlate 7Ci is available at a priced of Rs 3,499.

Aakash 2 - Low Cost Android Tablet Launched in India for Rs 1130

Aakash 2 tablet is powered by 1GHz processor which is built on the ARM Cortex A8 architecture and has got a 512MB RAM. It equips with a 7 inch capacitive display with four multi-touch point with a resolution of 800×480 pixels. It runs the latest Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and include 4GB internal memory, which can be expanded up to 32GB with the help of microSD card slot. It also got a VGA front facing camera for video calling and have Wi-Fi network connectivity.

IIT Bombay along with the HRD Ministry has created several useful educational applications for the tablet. Ten Thousand Teachers Training Programme – a live video interaction with participants, Clicker applications for real-time feedback in country-wide classroom, Daisy Books for differently-abled students, NCERT content , GNU Khata– an accounting package for barefoot accountants in rural areas and Scholarship Portal integrated with Aadhar. Teachers and students in the remotest corners of India can join a classroom and benefit from lectures delivered by the best teachers.
