The number of telephone subscribers in India increased to 965.52 million at the end of June, 2012 from the earlier 960.90 million thereby registering a growth rate of 0.48% says TRAI‘s latest Telecom Subscription Data report as on 30th June 2012. The share of urban subscribers has declined to 64.40% from 64.65% whereas share of rural subscribers has increased to 35.60% in the month of June 2012.
Moving on to the Wireless segment which includes GSM, CDMA and FWP, the total mobile subscriber base increased from 929.37 million in May 2012 to 934.09 million at the end of June 2012, registering 0.51% growth rate. The share of urban wireless subscribers has decreased from 64.24 % to 63.98% where as share of rural wireless subscribers has increased from 35.76% to 36.02% bringing up the overall wireless Teledensity in India to 76.99.
Bharti Airtel hold the top telecom operator crown in India with 20.05% market share, an increase of .11 million telecom subscribers from May 2012. Reliance Communication takes the second spot with 16.55% share and Vodafone in the third place with 16.46% share. Private operators hold 88.88% of the wireless market share in India (based on subscriber base) where as BSNL and MTNL, the two PSU operators hold only 11.12% market share.
The net addition of new users by Bharti Airtel topped with 42.34% share, followed by Vodafone grabbing 25.83% share. Govt owned MTNL and BSNL have gained this month with 0.24% and 11.93% share respectively, a great come back as they where losing subscribers previously.
According to TRAI latest report Mobile Number Portability requests increased from 50.16 million subscribers at the end of May 2012 to 54.33 million at the end of June 2012. An addition of 4.16 million requests have been made for MNP during the month June 2012. Mobile subscribers from Karnataka takes the top spot in the number of MNP request by 6.43 million followed by Andhra Pradesh (5.20 million) and Rajasthan (5.06 million).
Broadband segment is showing a monthly growth of 1.36%, with total Broadband subscriber base in India increasing from 14.31 million at the end of May 2012 to 14.50 million at the end of June 2012. There are 155 Internet Service Providers (ISPs) which are providing broadband services in the country. BSNL topping the chat with 9.24 million broadband subscribers (63.7 % market share) followed by Bharti Airtel with 1.37 million subscribers (9.4%) and MTNL with 1.06 million subscribers (7.3%).
