Well, we now got a powerful device in the gap left vacant by Samsung’s exploding Galaxy Note 7. With almost identical dual edge curved display, best-in-class hardware, global connectivity support and costing just half of all currently premium smartphones.

Xiaomi the Chinese mobile vendor at a Beijing press event unveiled the Mi Note 2. The worthy successor to previous year Mi Note and the phablet to taken on Samsung’s Galaxy Note series along with flagship S7 edge. At a quick glance, the Note 2 features dual-edge curved display, Snapdragon 821 processor, up to 6GB of RAM, 22.56MP camera, and global 4G VoLTE connectivity.

Let’s go deep into the design and specification of Xiaomi Mi Note 2. The smartphone/phablet features a 5.7-inch Quad HD flexible OLED display curved to the sides, just like Samsung Galaxy S7 edge. When taking the dual edges into account the display has a screen to body ratio of 77.2 percent. The whole screen is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass.

For a top-end device, you got the top of the line hardware. Under the hood, the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 is powered by a 2.35GHz Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 821 quad-core chipset. That’s coupled with either 4GB RAM and 64 GB internal storage or much powerful 6GB RAM and 128GB of flash storage (UFS 2.0).

The Xiaomi Mi Note 2’s boasts a 22.56-megapixel rear camera featuring Sony’s IMX 318 sensor and comes with electronic image stabilization just the Google Pixel smartphone. The back camera also features hybrid phase detection autofocus (PDAF) and LED flash support. On the front for selfie lovers, the smartphone come with an 8-megapixel camera with f 2.0 aperture and IMX 268 sensor.

For connectivity, the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 supports a total of 37 global LTE bands and this includes all the 4G LTE bands we have here in India. Other connectivity options include VoLTE for HD voice calling, 3G and 2G network support along with WiFi, Bluetooth, and NFC.

For extra security, Xiaomi has added ultrasonic fingerprint scanner with Qualcomm’s Sense ID on Mi Note 2 and placed right under the home button in front. For Audiophiles the Note 2 comes with an Aqstic audio processor that offers 192KHz/24-bit Hi-Fi HD lossless audio.

Now to the main talking point here, the price. The Xiaomi Mi Note 2 is priced at RMB 2,799 (approximately Rs 28,500) for the 4GB RAM and 64GB storage variant. Whereas the 6GB RAM and 128GB storage variant got a price tag of RMB 3,299 (approximately Rs 33,500). There is one global variant with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage priced at RMB 3,499 or approximately Rs 35,000 and probably the one that’s coming to India.
