Windows Phone users don’t feel left out of the railway ticket booking option as Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has partnered with Microsoft to launch IRCTC App for Windows Phone and Windows 8 devices. This provides users another channel to book railway e-tickets in addition to the existing portal and provides anytime, anywhere access to IRCTC services.
IRCTC app allow users to perform most of the tasks already available on the IRCTC website like plan a trip, make railway reservations, cancel tickets, booking history, check the PNR status, routes of train, passenger info, quick booking, favorites, recent booking history and also making payment using the IRCTC payment gateway. However the app will not work as intended from 0800 – 1200 hrs and 2330 – 0030 hrs as per the existing Railway guidelines.
While considering IRCTC’s other mobile apps for Android and Java based mobiles, IRCTC Windows App provides some exclusive features with additional enhanced experience of all IRCTC website services. It include a visual maps of train routes, Windows Phone live tiles (lighting up as train tickets) and access to saved traveler profiles from multiple devices.
If you got a Windows Phone, you can download the app from Windows Apps Store. To use this app one have to generate a TPIN by logging onto IRCTC website (www.irctc.co.in). It generates a four digit password, that will be sent to your registered mobile number under your IRCTC account. It’s a one time process to verify the app by IRCTC allowing you to book railway tickets more securely.
Recently only Indian Railway launched train ticket booking through a text messaging based SMS facility or a menu-based dialing USSD service.
