India Government ask ISPs to Disable Inflammatory and hateful contents on Websites

India Government taking more grip to stop the rumours spreading North Eastern people being attacked, have directed Internet Service Provider’s (ISP) in India to disable all Inflammatory and hateful contents targeting North Eastern community hosted on websites. There has been reports of rumours being spread through online Social Media sites and other communities, which in effect has led to mass departure of North Eastern people from certain parts of the country especially Bangalore, Mumbai, Hydrabad and Pune.

Department of Information Technology (DIT) has released directives to all ISPs in the country saying” A lot of content which is of the nature of inflammatory, hateful and inciting violence particularly targeting North Eastern community is found to be hosted on the Websites. Such a content is disturbing peace and harmony among the communities in the country leading to public disorder. Several incidents of violence has been reported across the country.

Publishing and hosting of such of such hateful and inflammatory content is an offernce.

In terms of Section 69A and Sub Section 3(b) under Section 79 of the Information Technology Act, 2000 and Rules published there in, all Intermediaries are advised to take necessary action to disable such inflammatory and hateful content hosted on their websites on priority basis.”

DIT also warns that publishing and hosting of such of such hateful and inflammatory content is an offernce and people found to be spreading rumours will be identified and punished.

Earlier India Government banned sending bulk SMS and MMS for 15 days in the country. The step was taken after a reports of threatening SMS/MMS being sent to North Eastern students in Bangalore, Mumbai, Hydrabad, Pune and other cities, which in effect has led to mass departure of North Eastern people from certain parts of the country.
