Following the paths of its owner, the Flipkart owned, India’s online fashion retailer Myntra has reopened its mobile website, taking a complete U-turn on its app only ideology.
Myntra said that it doesn’t want to miss out on customers who still prefer the website, instead of installing an app and, more importantly, first-time web users.
“The relaunch of the mobile site is not a change in our strategy. We continue to be heavily focused on our new app. The mobile site will be functional and the app offers a far superior experience. We will keep nudging users to the app even on the mobile site (which will have a link to the app). The site will provide more information to customers before they start using the app” commented Ambarish Kenghe, head of products at Myntra to Livemint.
Myntra shut down its desktop and mobile websites in May 2015 and became an app-only online store. A bold move from any Indian e-commerce websites, but largely criticized by many analysts as customers are restricted from having the choice.
Recently only Myntra’s parent company and India’s top shopping site Flipkart relaunched its mobile version of the website called Flipkart Lite. Where Google Chrome team has worked out with Flipkart to use advanced mobile web technology on the website.
