SMSing are things of past, it’s now WhatsApping. For those WhatsApp addicts out there, India’s top telecom operator Bharti Airtel has launched WhatsApp pack for its pan India prepaid customers that offers you to stay social anywhere anytime.
Airtel’s WhatsApp pack offers 200MB of 3G or 2G data usage (as per the availability) to use WhatsApp mobile application on your Android, iOS, WindowsPhone, BlackBerry and Symbian phones at a price of Rs 36 per month. The monthly subscription charges changes with different telecom circle, Jammu & Kashmir telecom circle has the lowest pack charge of Rs 36 per month and Mumbai telecom circle got the highest charge of Rs 49 per month.
To activate the pack, customers need to SMS ‘Whatsapp’ to 121. Subscription fees as per your telecom circle will be deducted on activation the pack. On data usage more than the monthly pack or using internet outside of WhatsApp, customers will get charged as per their current data plan.
Other Indian telecom operators have already partnered with WhatsApp to offer dedicated data plans for its customers. First on it Reliance Communication launched ‘My College Plan’ that offered free Facebook & WhatsApp at a monthly charge of Rs 16. Tata Docomo with its social networking packs offered customers with unlimited access to WhatsApp service at a very affordable rate of Rs 1 per day. Uninor too offered its customers with Sabse Sasta Whatsapp for Rs 1 for a day.
Update (29th Feb 2016) – Airtel has withdrawn the WhatsApp pack as per TRAI’s new regulation on differential pricing.
